Peugeot's Four gears!
So Marcus was only running a four speed 'box on the Monte according to the WRC TV coverage!
The messed up with the ratios for one of the long blasts, but why have they chosen four gears only. Lightness, reliabilty, masochism? From what I saw, everyone else was running normal 'boxes. Ford certainly had six gears. |

Mainly because the Peugoet has a lot o0f torque and having fewer gears saves weight and space for the sizo of the box.
Apparently they can still use a five speed if they want too |

I'd be surprised if they use the 4 speed option next time out, it seemed to be a bit of a shambles to me.

I thought it very clever to put a spoiler at the rear so we can tell one end from the other.

Not the best looking car is it!? Still, I don't suppose that matters too much. Last edited by krt917; 26 Jan 2004 at 11:11. |

The new Mitsubishi is pretty ugly as well. At least they had enough gears in that though

Four gears should be fine as long as the ratios are correct, which in this case they weren't.
Still, you live and learn - the 307 did well for a first outing. |

Marcus has done this a lot in the past when the "new" gearbox has proved unreliable. He set quite a few fastest stage times until the fog set in so I guess it hampers him little having 1-2 gears less than the others. Plus, the guy is a god so he can get away with it!

They'll use five-speed box on the faster events, such as New Zealand, Finland etc.
