Motors TV announce new live BTCC coverage for 2004

Quote:
100 % ALL-DAY LIVE TV COVERAGE

AND INTERACTIVE “LIVE SHOW”

FOR BTCC AND TOCATour 2004

Sky digital satellite broadcaster, Motors TV, announced today that it will dramatically increase its live broadcast coverage of the BTCC and all TOCA support-races for 2004.

In total, Motors TV live coverage will expand to over 80 hours for the season which will now provide all the race-day action (BTCC and all support events) with live television coverage.

Race-day will benefit from a 100% dedicated all-day live coverage at each TOCA/BTCC meeting, from the first to the final race of the day, including all support races and the 3 BTCC races. Furthermore, Motors TV will produce a new interactive “Live-Show” at the end of each meeting, gathering top-drivers of the day and enabling viewers to ask their questions.

Motors TV and TOCA have also formed a closer relationship for this upcoming season, in order to maximise the championship’s European and global audience. Part of this agreement will see Motors TV handle advertising promotion for all the events, while the viewers may enter contests to win VIP packages.

“The new deal is a major achievement in British motorsport”, TOCA/BTCC Series Director Alan Gow commented. "This groundbreaking MotorsTV arrangement is a first for British motorsport and further underlines the pre-eminence of both the BTCC and TOCAtour ".

"The increased all-day live MotorsTV coverage is extraordinary, not only for the BTCC but importantly also for all the TOCA support races. To think that some 110 races will be broadcast live is astounding, and I don't believe British motorsport has ever received such an enormous amount of season-long live coverage that the BTCC and TOCA support races will enjoy in 2004."

Motors TV Head of Programming Frédéric VIGER adds : “The opportunity of continuing the deal was undisputed. The BTCC looks better than ever with the new rules, new cars and new manufacturers, and the race-day schedules will be tightened for both the on-track spectators and TV viewers benefit. Our interactive “Live-Show” will bring the drivers closer to the public. The fabulous TOCA support races will provide our viewers with the very best motorsport action, beamed live and direct into their living rooms from start to finish.”

As the flagship of Motors TV, the BTCC and TOCA support races will be available across the entire channel’s network, bringing the races to over 11 million homes in both the UK and 15 European countries. Motors TV is available free-view on Sky Digital # 416.

sounds really good.

"Motors TV is available free-view on Sky Digital # 416."

- is this one of those channels you can get just by buying a freeview set top box?

'fraid not, just Sky Digital (although you don't need a sports package).

Excellent news!

The BTCC coverage in '03 was great with Tim Harvey and Ben Edwards. Better tha ITV I'd say.

Support packcage means that more Heritige Grand Touring!

Yay! Mustangs!

They did quite a bit of live coverage this year, showing most of the afternoons racing on a few occasions. Lets hope that Sky don't make it a premium channel or pay per view event

could the Heritage cars be supporting SCV8 instead? Rouse has involvment with both.

This live coverage is good for the sport but its not exactly cheap if you're only interested in the btcc.

The Heritage GT series was created specifically for the TOCATour package. I doubt it will run anywhere next year.

That interactive program is great news. But what will happen with DTM/BTCC clashes?

They could always do what the BBC do with Wimbledon and let you choose which match (race) you want to watch. How ace would that be?!

Rumours persist that unfortunatley, that won't be a problem next year.....the Mighty Sky empire may have got it's hands on the DTM to shove in their Sky Sports package (even made a little news bar in Autosport a few months ago) but Motors still think they have it too....so who knows what will happen?

Maybe the DTM think Motors is a French channel, and sold the UK rights to Sky...not knowing that we could see it a lot cheaper on Motors TV!

Anyway, back on topic.....I'm still wondering HOW this will work....it's surely not possible for Ben Edwards to commentate for 8 hours a day with very little break...

Perhaps he could just do the BTCC races, and they could tie into the trackside feed for the Supports?

You don't have to subscribe to Sky to get Motors TV, or indeed use any proprietary Sky equipment.

Any digital satellite receiver, which you can buy for less than a hundred pounds (check a magazine like "What Satellite TV" for potential retailers) will pick up Motors TV, and dozens of other FREE channels without paying a subscription to anyone.

Sky deny that they have the rights, so I am inclined to believe that it was a mis-translation from German, by someone who assumed that as Motors is available on Sky, it must be Sky.

Anyway, it isn't a problem, because unlike this year, when DTM and BTCC calendars clashed 5 times, it only happens once next year - Zandvoort/Snetterton - and it will just mean the DTM not being shown live that weekend.

At Snetterton this year he did nine hours, with only one break. But I'd expect them to use two pairs of commentators.

By the sounds of it, this interactive thing at the end of the day will be studio based? Somewhere I reckon that is an improvement - far better than watching an empty track.

Here's hoping.....Motors have yet to officialy announce anything besides BTCC for next year yet, (besides hinting about V8 Supercars/NASCAR BUSCH being live...even on air!, but again, they won't be a problem, due to the time delay/days raced on) so lets hope they cling on to the DTM too, and get the rights to just about every form of Motorsport so we're safe from Eurosport!

For TV, ntl seems terrible.

Remember, MotorsTV is Free-To- Air. Anyone wishing to watch it has two low-cost options:

1. Pay Sky £120 to install a dish and box, which will receive the Free-To-Air and Free-To-View channels.

2. Buy a standard Free-To-Air digital satellite box and dish.

With regards to other european racing, I don't think anyone need worry. MotorsTV have two separate video feeds, and three audio feeds (two in French, one in English). It's simple enough for them to show the DTM on the 'French version', and the BTCC on the 'English version' (for example).

With a Sky setup, people in the UK get the 'English version' by default. You can see the french feed by manually adding the channel.

Yes, you need a dish as well...that'll cost you about £20, and take about an hour to install and align.
