Ralf has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Qualifying results

Michael 1st
Kimi & JPM behind him
Pizzonia 8th:confused:
Ralf 10th
Button out qualifying Jacques again
Coulthard 14th
Webber 17th
Alonso 19th

Well done to Pizzonia, guess he's stuck it up them!

jetsetter should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I think we're going to see some different strategies played out during the race & it's going to be interesting to see how Webber & Alonso come through from the rear of the grid while we've got the championship leaders on the front row so i think we could be in for a good race.

The usual suspects in the top three. I am shocked how slopply JV ran his lap. He was all over the place. The only person that looked as bad was Webber. I hope JV gets a good start. I think he and Button are on similar strategies.

Yeah what did happen to Jacques??? His first sector was horrid but the others were decent. Did he run wide? They never commented on formula1.com or f1-live about it?

Too bad for Alonso and Webber. Coultard is looking pretty bad but he's got to be quite a bit heavier than Kimi. Ralf losing out to Monty by quite a margin but he was first out. Pizzonia really needed a good showing so nice for him to get that. Heidfeld in 4th??? Gotta be light. Also a good showing from Trulli in 6th and Fisi getting the pig up to 9th.
Not bad...I was sure that Kimi would hold off Shumi for pole but sure enough...

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed.

There was a mistake on the Live timing. On shuey's run, they said he made a huge slide, yet he still got pole ????
Well, I assume it mustnt have been a big slide or he must have had an animal end to the lap.... anyway, apart from that confusion, I thought quali's was really exciting today.

We can't see qualifying on TV here in Oz.
What happened to Coulthard, Rubins, Ralf, Webber & Alonso?
Small mistakes I assume.

It's a shame about Webber, if Pizzonia got the Jag into 8th, you'd think Mark could be on the 2nd row at least!

They all looked fairly bad! A strange mix of lack of and too much commitment. And lots of trying to make up for a previous mistake in teh next corner and failing!

Sort of fun though. Great slide, catch and rest of lap by Michael and an enjoyable committed lap by Kimi.

Not so small. All of them just messed up at least once. Three times for DC! Alonso once with bigish consequences. Webber for most of the lap.

he had a slide in turn 2 but i don't think it took much time because the corner is slow

Juan Pablo's back! Damn good stuff! What happened to Webber in the first sector, I was only able to watch the timings on the web site (I'm at work).

I agree. His lap was very disappointing. After making that mistake in the first corner, he should have held it more together for the remainder of the lap, IMO. Teddy, Jacques ran wide twice, both in the first and in the last corner. DC also ran wide, which is why he lost some time.

Mistakes galore in this qualifying. Alonso, Webber, DC, Villeneuve and possibly Ralf are all further down the grid than they would have been if they hadn't made mistakes. At least this means that there'll be plenty of duels come tomorrow, and it looks like it will be a good race. Yes, TGF locked up and slid going into Remus, but he made a magnificent save. Never did I think he was going to get pole after that happened.

Damon, Webber almost crashed in the first corner. He only just missed the tyres, and had to drive through the dust and grass to rejoin the circuit.

MS took one corner with a lot of opposite lock and sliding, he managed to keep the momnetum going though. JV ran really wide on the first turn and locked up the wheels twice more through his lap. Webber got the first turn completely wrong even more wrong than JV then went on to make another mistake, dont remember where. RS ran a really conservative lap. Even then he did not look really well. Now for NH!! maybe he is going to pull a Button and stop really early.

DC's car looked to be undriveable - I'm still not sure whether it was the car or the driver...

Come to think of it, Firman also made a mistake in the last corner. He was running pretty well in the beginning of the lap (was ahead of Ralf at the first intermediate, probably because Ralf ran wide in the first corner - not that wide though, since he didn't leave the tarmac. The outside of that first corner has been paved).

Really? That IS disappointing. Especially since I think he was for once running similar fuel levels to Button this time so his race will definately be compromised somewhat.

I knew he must have messed up the first corner. I remember when I was at Austria a couple years ago he always had a bit of trouble with it, always going off into the dirt a bit more than the others.
So I guess he must have overdrived the last sectors trying to make up time. Ahhh well a lot of drivers messed up today. Should make for some interesting racing come tomorrow.

I'm obviously VERY disapointed with this result, Jos could have been in p 16 or 17 if the gearbox had'nt died on him
