Channel 7's Program Structure
Like we all know by now, 7 has the V8's for six years. Seeing as they also have AFL and I presume so Wallabies matches (unless 10 got them along with Super 14s), the V8's and AFL are going to have to learn to share Sundays between them.
Seven has also promised more live coverage, including Qualifying and the Saturday races, as well as 25 (?) half hour and 4 one hour shows dedicated to the sport on non-racing weekends. So how would you structure all this together? I think TC also said that with the clashes with the AFL we might be in for a return to night racing, so keep that in mind. Here's my take on things: Saturday RACE WEEKEND 13:00-16:00 Qualifying/Shootout/Race (Race telecast live) Sunday 14:00-17:00 Race 2 & 3 (Race 3 telecast live) NON RACING WEEKEND Sunday half hour/hour dedicated show- Same time as RPM |

saturday there looks alright, sunday you will have a race live probably around the 11.30 mark. 1pm is when the footy match starts. 3.30 - 4 you will get race 3 and after that you will get a twilight footy match. i would presume the rpm like show will be around lunch time (somewhere before 1) on non race weekends and might not even be on race weekends. Or you could have a show on saturday arvos on non racing weekends and no show on sundays.

Speaking of which, it was very misleading of Diffey to tell us halfway through Race 3 yesterday the broadcast was live. That suggests the whole coverage was, when it was only coincidence that coverage caught up with the delayed race.

Let's hope the people at 7 aren't as misleading...

Does it really matter that much if it is live or a hour or so behind?? unless you watch the race on TV and lookup bigpond at same time (nothing will make me goto bigpond for broadband) it doesn't make any real difference to me. Maybe I am just accustom to being stuck two hours behind in Perth

i think that every other weekend but a race weekend the afl will be live but on a race weekend the game will be delayed. and on a race weekend the show on the v8's will go for a half hour and on a non race weekend the show will go for an hour.
RACE WEEKEND Saturday 12:30 - 13:00 v8 show 13:00 - 16:00 Qualifying/Shootout/Race (Race telecast live). Sunday 14:00 - 17:00 Race 2 & 3 (Race 3 telecast live) NON RACING WEEKEND Saturday 12:30 - 13:30 v8 show Sunday 13:00 - 16:00 live afl game |

Just to clarify pwr fan... The dedicated show will consist of 25 half hour shows and 4 hour long shows... And they will only be on non-racing weekends.

I got to agree with HRT kid on this one, i think we will see an earlier race, game of footy, then back to the V8s. Maybe the last v8 race could get pushed back to after the news, but i dont see the v8s taking over an entire Sunday afternoon because the AFL will be seven's bread winner, and i dont see them putting the v8s in front of that.

What I think will happen is this...... AFL/RACE WEEKEND SAT 12-2 -FFord [1 hr program] -Tubby Taylor Trophy [1 hr program] -Whatever else [1 hr program in lieu of previous 2 if they are not running] SAT 2-5 -Qualifying/Shootout (if we MUST have a shootout) -Race 1 [LIVE] SUN 1-4 -AFL [LIVE] SUN 4-6 -Race 2 [LIVE] Alternatively, if it's a 3 race format SUN 11-1 -Race 2 [LIVE] SUN 1-4 -AFL [LIVE] SUN 4-6 -Race 3 [LIVE] RACE WEEKEND ONLY (There's 1 weekend where there's no Sunday Football, a split round in Jun/July) SAT 2-5 -Qualifying/Shootout (if we MUST have a shootout) -Race 1 [LIVE] SUN 1-5 -Race 2 [LIVE] -Race 3 if there's a race 3 [LIVE] Alternatively, on that weekend you could have a 1 race format. SANDOWN SAT 2-5 -Qualifying/Shootout SUN 12-5 -Race BATHURST FRI 1-4 -Qualifying SAT 12-5 -Shootout -Minor Categories -Horse Racing (If the weekend falls on Caulfield Gunieas day, they will show a few races) SUN 8-6 -Race INDY (It looks as though 7 may take on Champ Car for 2007, but I wouldn't bet on it) SAT 12-5-Champ Car Qualifying [LIVE] -Race 1 [LIVE] -Horse Racing (When there's a lull in precedings, given Indy will either fall on Caulfield Cup or Cox Plate day. This may affect when races can start) SUN 10-5 -Race 2 [LIVE] -Champ Car Race [LIVE] -Race 3 [LIVE] I haven't taken into account the fact that horse racing will be on during the Sydney Autumn carnival (Easter time) and in the Melbourne Spring Carnival (October/November) or the fact that we may get a home Davis Cup tie (rounds usually Feb, April/May, Sept and Late Nov/Early Dec). |

Future AFL Premiership Season- Joint with Seven Network (2007-2011) Rugby World Cup (2007) 2007 Super 14 (2007) Looks like even less Motor Racing on 10 next year. There coverage has gotten worse and there has been less every year. I have got alot of examples but I will not post them unless someone here wants me too. Don't wory, I will not start posting 100 different thread complaining about how bad 10 are. Quote:

Bigpond is crap. Its just in car cammeras for the whole race. Qualifying is good. I can't use it anymore because my computer is now as slow as a snail. No its slower than a snail!

Will all this extra airtime promised next year feature only V8Supercars?
Probably, but half of their telecasts now are struggling to fill out the shows (especially the likes of pre-race at Adelaide, plus Indy and so on), what will they do? One big advantage will be that the V8 telecasts will mostly (except the rounds that may be finished by 3) run to 6pm, giving time for some post race debriefs, especially at the likes of Bathurst, where with Channel 10 it has been very rushed and spoiled at the end of the raceday. |

A few things from that though mabs_nsx, Lotus Trophy is dead, Australian Performance Cars are not on the bill next year at VESA events, and i hardly think VESA will let their #2 series bring up the rear of the support race coverage...........plus i find it hard to believe Channel 7 will be interested in granting 3 and a half hours to support categories (unless they have found alot more money to pay for next years coverage than they did this year) |
