James Allen
Have to say he's getting better, but hopefully "snorting lap" won't become another one of his annoying catchphrases. Where does he come up with them?????
Have to say ITV gave us some good in car footage today, but all it did was make me what digital even more! |

SORRY to rub it in , but F1 digital was just awesome today , they went onboard with montoya and went live with his radio too , just as he was slagging off the yellow flag situation as he drove at racing speed , He said the "F" word Live on the air for the 2nd week running .The onboards were on nearly every car as they qualified , and Ben Edwards just talks total sense for the whole 3 hours of track action.

Ah, man. Live driver radios. That must be so cool to hear. That's worth the £12.99 (or whatever it is) by itself. Sato San - please keep us up to date with any other funny broadcasts!

wow...so thats like $20-25/race? thats kinda steep dont you think?
since ABC is carrying 4 races this year, they should be of the digital feed (like last year's race@indy)....or is this just wishful thinking on my part? |

Allen really does suck. He gets on my nerves. Wish Murray had never retired. And does Ted Kravitz actually do anything worthwhile in the pits? We hear from Louise more than we do from him!

Sad indeed. |

Well you can never replace Murray, but Ben Edwards should've got the job, not James (I fancy Montoya) Allen. Loads of us, including me, were saying that Ben should've been ITV's replacement choice, and BOY were we right!

murray made his fair share of cockups, but at least he didnt constantly go on about how many kilos of fuel everyone is carrying or what compound tyres they are running, etc, etc.
who really gives a sh** |

The problem with James Allen is he simply tries too hard and what he says doesn't appear to come natural unlike Martin Brundle...
James comes on with a booming "in your face" style which would be fine if you were Murray Walker which James Allen doesn't even come close on. Guy |

I can't undestand the enthusism for Ben Edwards - he just screams, that's about it...sorry, just my opinion.
My ideal F1 commentary team, apart from Murray of course would be... John Watson, Martin Brundle and Alan Jones ... with James in the pits. Don't scoff at AJ - listen to the Aus GP '95, he did a great job, didn't take over, just the occassional comment from the sidelines. |

I just flicked over from the excellent F1 digital coverage watching the top 3 driver interview to catch the ITV presenter going through the grid and say Trulli in sixth always qualifies well in the Renault ???

ok that was a good session and i must admit James Allen is growing on me as a commentator, except a few discrepancies. did anybody notice the F1 admin logo in the bottom left hand corner of the screen?
cracking in car footage i must say |

I think the Speev Vision commentary team is better - only problem is those guys sit in a studio somewhere in the States and call the race from there rather than from the circuits.
Thats a shame...otherwise I would rather listen to them than Allen. He's a great pit lane guy but he sucks behind the mike. (Although, looking on the bright side at least we're not stuck with John Watson) |

One question about the F1 channel. If you join midway thru the first practice session, does the interactive bit still work?

While I dumped the F1 channel in favour of ITV for qualifying yesterday.
James Allen is doing a great job. I don't miss Murray Walker as he fills the post well. |

hehehe you got balls hakki for saying that you dont miss murray and Allen is the equal of him
of course i'd love murray back but it isnt gonna happen, i think that Allen is the most appropriate guy for the job at the moment and he's good because like Martin and Murray, the voices are different and euphanisms as well. it also brings more technicality because Allen was an engineer for one of the teams before going into TV |

james allen...right place right time, really should have been ben edwards.
the logical itv progression seems to be that should poor james be knived while lost in the sao paula favellas - job goes to ted(no relation)kravitz...itvs policy isn't so clever now! |

Ben does work for ITV that's the stupid thing, he's commentating on the BTCC, so why didn't they give him some cash to do f1 aswell instead of paying two rather large wage packets.
Ted aint that bad, but Jimmie was better at the pits job. |

ted kravitz - no offence but he just has no charisma...maybe they should get the woman in (i cant remember her name !!!) or should they just have a 'murray' replicator machine?!
