Story here.
We've heard similar things before but this time an announcement is expected this week (according to the story) so we should know more pretty soon. |

So WAU are going to enter Supercars with a space frame chassis resembling a Toyota badged BMW...
The more the merrier I guess! |

Totally unexpected but amazing news. It's a big win for Supercars and fantastic to see a new brand. One can only feel sorry for Ford as they're losing their best team...

So now it's official - Toyota announce 2026 entry with WAU.
Very big deal that a 3rd brand will be on the grid. Edit - EB beat me to it - sorry all for double post. More: Toyota is looking for a second team (smart move in my view). Bet WAU is hoping that it isn't 888. Why WAU is dumping Ford and going to Toyota. Personally not surprised at the change - Ryan Walkinshaw has been quoted as saying a number of times that they were looking to bring in a new manufacturer. Video of the reveal/launch/announcement. Tribalism kept Toyota away before now. Last edited by Tourer; 17 Sep 2024 at 20:56. |

I guess the "parity" issue will start all over again. A 3-way parity formula will be interesting!

So which team will become Toyota’s #2 team?
Could Frosty become a Toyota driver for 2026? Oh what a feeling! |

Great news!
Fantastic! Hopefully Nissan will join the party with their Z to further break down the "Americana"-ness. WAU and Gazoo Racing have taken the "easy" way out with the Toyota 2UR V8 that is substantially similar to the Ford Coyote. For whatever reason they weren't game to try a turbocharged six cylinder (be it the Toyota V6 or the BMW inline) - oh well. Still it's fantastic stuff, especially if Nissan can be tempted to field some Zs with some Todd Kelly tweaked Nissan VK56 engines (or indeed the GT-R twin-turbo V6 or Q60 twin-turbo V6). |

Do Gen3 rules permit non-V8s?

You do wonder where this team might come from? Groves, MSR and PremAir seem to be heavily investing, and wanting to go places. I'm guessing most people are hoping the second team comes from the GM side. WAU far and away the best Mustang team now. Quote:
Mitsubishi is in a similar boat, and Subaru is being kept alive by Toyota. |

Interesting they are using the Supra model.
I would have though a Camry may have been a better option or I guess not as its not a 2 door ? Should it really come down to that though? |

Why would Toyota spend money to sell Camry?
Supra is sexy and aspirational and has a lot more margin, and by halo effect will sell other affordable GR models, of which there are now many. |

Yes, but Toyota will be running the Lexus V8
Don't you remember 888 playing around with a V6 a few years ago https://speedcafe.com/supercars-news...0-sean-hanley/ |

Admit to surprise and excitement by the news but as others have said, why the Supra?! It's a sports car, not a muscle car or sports sedan/coupe?
It is tiny compared to the other two cars but then I guess the RX7 was tiny next to Falcons and Commodores back in the day. |
