The entire Silly Season wound up into two days!
Now it's this... Phillipe to N/Haas, Junqueira to Coyne! |

Guess we should change the name of the thread?
Or re-post it tomorrow? Phillipe and Tagliani to Rocketsports. So ends any speculation about Carps. |

Maybe the team owners will just draw names out of a hat and whoevers name gets drawn, that's the team he drives for. It'd make just as much sense as this does! And they could pool all their money and sponsors and everyone gets a couple sponsors and an equal share of the pot, and if you bring anything extra in after the season starts you can keep it. Kind of like Fantasy Grid ...
Well, for those of us who are easily amused, it's kind of an interesting idea. |

In some ways, this has not come off very well....as noted above and in other threads concerning the Carpentier thing and Team Forsythe not having the sponsor for PT locked and loaded and ready for today, etc....
But in their defense, they had to announce what would be forthcoming this year...even if some of it is still "in progress".... The whole in-court thing put eveybody months behind in this type of preparation (sponsors finalized, etc.)....things will come togheter by the time they will go racing at Long Beach.... |

May I add emphasis to your last sentence?
"Things will come together by the time they will go racing at Long Beach." But I agree... So far this hasn't been what I was hoping for. |

I was expecting more things to be firm, and I'm still in shock over the Carpentier news....
But like I said in other threads last week....it "will" come together between now and Long Beach... In other ways, given the short time span from late January in court to today, they have put a lot of things together...just not all of them...yet.... I also think they will have a good season to watch and follow....too bad Long beach is still 5-6 weeks away....I'm ready to watch racing now... |

Fabio and Lavin on the same track = red flag waiting to happen. BDPS to Champ Cars is a bit of a jump.

Fellows,
This is a case of over-excitation: a misunderstanding - by Nelson Phillipe himself - added to all the circulating rumours (most completely unfounded, as usual) created this confusion. What happened was the following: before the Rocketsports conference Phillipe was asked a number of different questions by surrounding journalists (while the Rocketsports personnel was trying to move him away). One of questions was about what team he would be driving for; another about the announcement of his main sponsor (Lease Plan). Phillipe got a little overwhelmed with all questions being asked at the same time and answer "tomorrow" to the people that asked about his ride. Actually he was referring to some announcement by Lease Plan (quite possibly Lease Plan will throw an event/reception/party). Nelson Phillipe was, of course, confirmed as a Rocketsports driver today. Cheers, Muzza |

I tested against Nelson in the BDPS at Sebring last April. It was my first test but he had already done about 5/6 2 day tests.
He was a very nice bloke and could drive but, without souding harsh, had a lot of money. I had never driven the car or circuit before and I got down to a fastest time of 1:07.912. Nelsons time was 1:07.837. He has doen a lot in the past including a works Tony Kart World Karting driver and he had a good run of podiums at the end of the BDPS year. He should do pretty well and I hope he does, I just wish I could have raced against him last year in BDPS and not had to sit the year out. Good luck to Nelson at Long Beach! Go get em! |

"...without sounding harsh, he had a lot of money."
Shouldn't that be, without sounding jealous ? Good luck to Nelson and I hope he and Tag get along well this year. |

Without sounding like his mother, Nelson Phillippe badly needs a haircut and a new wardrobe. Who on earth let him go out looking like Zephod Beeblebrox?

I found him to be a nice looking fellow, very polite and a little shy.
I must confess, I feel that fashion was invented for people who lack taste. |

Well apparently Nelson Phillipe lacks both fasion AND taste. But if he's only 17, I can understand it. BRING ME SOME SCISSORS!
I hope he's fast. Life at Rocketsports ought to be a heck of a soap opera this year. What a clash of nationalities! |

He's quick alright and was well liked by the mechanics at BDPS so he should go well with Tags(top bloke).

Do you really think that a jump from BDPS straight into Champcars is wise? Even for a really successful BDPS driver like Leo Maia it would be a big stretch. Phillippe was not a successful BDPS driver. According to the Barber website, he finished 11th in the championship with a best finish of 5th in Mexico.
