silverstone national circuit gearing
its been some time since i raced on the national and then only in appalling weather, can anyone give me a clue how to gear my car compaired to brands or snet, i can change the gearing between practise and race by swopping between 15 and 17 inch wheels, but would rather have it geared right for practise in the first place.

What top gear ratio are you using.
What car is it, how much torque has it got, where is the peak torque, what are the max revs? what is it's driveability like? If you have a big V8, direct top, you could use a 3.2:1 If you have a small screaming demon, with direct top, you could probably use a 4.1:1 or thereabouts. With my horrid little Nova GSi, direct top, I used a 3.94. Pulling 5th at the start of the pit wall, just right. With my new beastie, I expect to use a 3.09, direct top, 18" wheels. The only real way to check it out is go testing!! Rob. |

I use the same diff for all three circuits. I might use a lower gearing for Silverstone and Brands and some of the other drivers do but it does depend on where your torque band starts. I would always recommend being a little higher geared rather than lower. You don't want to be sitting on the rev limiter on the club straight at Silverstone - your times would suffer badly. |
