Normally I would applaud these sentiments, however.......
this is Max we're talking about. It was a marshall who tragically lost his life at Monza, yet Max is on about strengthening the cockpits. Why does he look at things in such an obscure manner. It's about time the issues involved in F1 safety AND excitement were tackled head on, instead of exposed by the ludicrous lateral thinking that is the hallmark of Mr Mosley. Cornering is too fast, so how should the cars be slowed down? Common sense says reduce the effects of aerodynamics - Max says narrow the cars and force grooved tyres onto the teams and tyre companies. Wheels keep flying off the cars in collisions, how can we stop this? Common sense says ban carbon suspension, which absorbs zero energy in a crash and shears, throwing the wheels off - max says tie the wheels to the cars with some rope. The races are quite boring, there's so little overtaking, how can we improve this? Common sense says reduce the importance and effects of the aerodynamics to allow the cars to slipstream properly and stay close behind a competitor, and ban carbon brakes so that overtaking opportunities are increased. - Max says bring in pit stops for fuel, so we can race in a completely false environment, and give the impression of excitement. Many F1 chiefs want Max out and are trying to find a way of doing this, what can the solution to this obvious impasse of views be? Common sense says Max should find out what the problems are and try working with the F1 community - Max says 'You can't get rid of me, you don't have the power and I'm going to stand for re-election so there(blows raspberry and gives Ron, Frank et al the finger)' What a wonderful man, what a lover of the sport, what a friend to the fans - I don't think. What is a supposedly intelligent man doing behaving so consistently like an idiot? |

It could be worse - it could be Jean-Marie Balestre.

Max: "Well, let's see. "How many grooves can we put in one of these tyres?"
Look, motor sport is never going to be completely safe. As long as drivers attempt to circumvent the laws of physics, there will be accidents, and sometimes, death. It's not something any of us wishes to happen, but it does. We should just learn from each death and try to improve, without Max's idiotic ideas. Good points, angst. |

Soon Max will realise what makes the racing so dangerous - it's the cars!
Just eliminate the cars and the race becomes safe. |
