Singapore GP and heating tires

Is anyone going to be able to heat up their tires enough for their qualifying laps in Singapore, especially as the race is during the night, and some people (Kimi) couldnt even get their tires into the working temperature this week with a track temperature of +90F?

Im not too sure and it might turn into a pretty dramatic race if everyone is having grip troubles because their tires arent warm enough.

What do you guys think?

I would assume that Bridgestone will have thought of this and will make suitable tyres.....

They are almost certainly not gonna have too much troubles with that, Singapore is a very hot and humid place throughout the day and night. Lets just hope they put on a better show than in Valencia.

I too am sure Bridgestone are ready for this.

Maybe with a new compound.

I'm not sure, never been there, but at this time of the year, Singapore at night would be as hot as some european cities in a summer day...

Theyre bringing the supersoft and soft tyres, so it shouldnt be too much of an issue. Drivers not getting the temperatures right doesnt necessarily mean theyre not getting enough temperature into them. They could be even overheating them or simply heating them up too quickly and then cooling them down too much.

Hekki might like the colder temperatures if that's what ends up being the case. He tends to overwork the tyres so a little cool might help him.

Oh I am very curious to know where you made that up from!!

and this thread is rather baseless as Singapore in stinking hot 90% of the year, day or night! and when the race is on it will be something like 22-30C!! hardly cold... have any of you been to the British GP in SUMMER!

Yes but the asphalt gets heated up by sunlight and not by the humidity so I think we might still get a suprise, atleast in qualifying.

If it does rain, all of the thoughts about heat in th tires will go out the window, and given that the race isn't at 4 am local time, the track will have been being heated all day, esp in the higher temps of the late afternoon (after the time most GPs are over). I doubt the roads will cool all that much in a few hours after the sun stops heating it; and if they are using the soft and supersofts will heating really be a problem, esp in qualifying where the tires will be heated to the max in the tire warmers for that one needed lap?
Sun sets at 1900 local time with quali at 2200 on the race at 2000, so I think the track will probably still retain alot of heat, esp with the average high of 31C (88F)

mate I have seen race cars driving at track temps of -2C (Fiorano launch) and the tyres still getting to working temp!

the tyres don't take heat from the sun to work, but from friction between the surface and also the flexing of the sidewall/casing...or simply loading the tyre up.

They don't have too many problems with tyres at Le Mans eh

? I thought it was Lewis who overworked his tyres?

Nevertheless there are occassions when the cool surface means that the tyres don't get hot enough. Mallory on boxing day for instance! The friction does the business, yes, but the track temperature contributes too. Yes tyres can work in cold temperatures, but that doesn't mean that all will.

Not that I think that it'll be a problem here.

I think we are getting crossed-wires in this thread. Some people are talking about track temperatures, others about tyre's characteristics. It seems what we are getting at is not whether the track will be too cold, per say, or whether the quality of the tyres themselves will be adequate, but rather whether Bridgestone will have created a suitable compound/construction for the given conditions.

I don't see any reason to think that Bridgestone will make a massive error, although it is possible. I'd think freak-weather-for-the-time-of-year is the only thing that could really make things difficult, but that wouldn't mean a problem with the tyres as such.

eh? No we are talking about whether the Bridgestone tyres characteristics are suitable for the track temperatures. It is either that of Austria 2001.

Are they producing a special tyre for this? I don't think so, presumably because they are confident that one of the recent hard/medium/soft/super-soft compounds are suitable. Is it the last two as suggested above?

Maybe this is a desperate effort from our forumers to avoid another booring race... but I'm sure the tyres and the track won't disappoint anyone making the race unpredictable.

I made this thread after reading what the drivers had to say after qualy in Valencia, where on a similar track (street) during the day, some drivers were complaining that they could not get the maximum from their tires.

Singapore will see the use of 'soft' and 'super soft' tyres as used at Monaco.

Maybe 'Monsoon' tyres too.

Plus there's a lot more sharp corners (chances for lockups and flexings to bring more heat.)
