80's Touring car Replicas
I'm interested in building a mk2 astra touring car replica like the car that John Cleland drove back in the 80's.
Can anyone help with contacts/information etc etc Thanks in advance. |

When you say replica, do you mean visually or down to the last nut and bolt? What kind of info are you after?
There are plenty of pics about, try the gallery on my site - www.supertouring.co.uk. |

Hi chaps and thanks for the welcome.
I am after information right down to the last nut and bolt as I want to use the car for track days and sprints. |

The cars were built by Dave Cooke Racing Services, so tracking them down might be a place to start. Or contact Vauxhall themselves to see if they have any info, or maybe they still have the cars themselves?

Cheers, thanks supertouring. IIRC, the engines were the 20XE on twin 45's, but I know little else.

Look around, I thought I once saw a pair of genuine Class 2 Astras were put up for sale. They were asking for something like $10K-15 GBP each??

I believe that Clelands team mate's, Louise Aitken Walker, car was her old rally car, converted for the track.

Why not try one of John Clelands Dealerships? I'm sure that someone who works for him ( or even the man himself ) would be able and willing to help you....?

Welcome Sideways.
On this subject I believe Dave Cook built the Gordon Spice Group 1 Capri's in the '70s. Engines by Neil Brown. My car replicates the 78 Spa 24hrs winning car. |

Bugger, I've come up against a brick wall. The number was correct, I got an answer today. a glazing firm have taken over the unit DCRS were in and the guy informs me DCRS went into liquidation about 2 years ago. However, this guy informed me that DCRS have started up again in or around Sheriff Hutton but he doesn't have any contact details.
Is anyone else able to help? Cheers |
