Sooo - the new season dawns with the slimmed down lineup. The variety has gone but there does seem to be plenty of "works" cars entered. Any sign of Petter Solberg on the entry list?
How many WR cars in total? Ireland has more than anywhere else so I'd expect a lot of the locals to be up for another crack (craic?) at the works drivers. |

and they call it a world championship? I wonder how far it has to decline before the FIA withdraws its 'world championship' status? or before the WRC hierarchy wakes up to the fact big changes are needed. Still looking forward to Rally Ireland though! |

There should be a Subaru out with Mads Ostberg, unless that deals gone because it was very close to Prodrive and the factory backing. Anyone else watch it on dave and spend the whole time wondering why the presenter had more time on screen than the rally cars? Really annoyed me. i think he's a good presenter, but I want to see WRC cars, not him.

About the only thing of note there is Atkinson's result after that crash. Well done to him, but looks like another yawnathon really.

Oh dear. Not a good omen for the rest of the season is it? Loeb cruises to the win and still the Fords can't match the Citroens on tarmac.

May as well give up now sadly. We don't get decent coverage, the events have been emasculated and all that's happened is the Citroens dominate as usual.

Well you have to give the suits some credit, they have demonstrated to the world how easy it is to destroy a great sport in three easy steps:
1. Allow costs to escalate so that most of the leading teams and drivers can no longer afford to compete. 2. Take the most famous events off the championship calendar. 3. Sign a TV deal with an organisation that only reaches about 5% of the population. Genius! |

What has happened to the WRC? I can understand they must have a lot of countries especially over Europe that have a big rally following and should give those countries rallyes which is cool and everything but having one year a schedule of rallies and none of them are repeated the next year is not the way to go imo because you lose all the heritage. All those rallyes are great for that very reason. How they can not have Monte Carlo and Sweden this year....Having a 100% different schedule the next year IMO just isn't the way to go.
Or should I call it the RWC as Eurosport have listed it for the past year or so now on SKY? Why call the name of the series different as to what it is? And now the fact it seems the championship is once again Loeb's after he won the first rally everyone may as just go home, heck its only Citreons and Fords now......I mean I have amazing respect for Loeb as he's phoenmoninal and love to see him in action as he is one of the best ever but there is no one out there to make things competitive and give him a run for his money at all now. I love rallying and all its awesome but its a shame what the WRC sorry RWC is. Last edited by luke; 3 Feb 2009 at 22:11. |
