Maybe worthy of its own thread since further developments are likely in the very near future which probably wouldn't make sense under the original thread title.

Maybe there could be some sort of 'tie-up' with one of the teams that didn't make it into the championship at the first attempt ?
But one would hope that BMW would finance the team just as Honda financed Brawn GP. |

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the ex-BMW team was a championship contender next year like what has happened to Honda?

He also said that it was a very dificult task, but that he had tougher jobs in the past.
A lot depends on whether BMW take the same approach to changing redundancy obligations to a capital injection in the new team that Honda took. If they do it could be the seed capital for a management buy out like the Honda/Brawn deal. One question is does Mario want to do a Ross? The other is who does the engine supply. Certainly if the Concorde signature deadline can be overcome they have much more time than Brawn and Fry had with Honda. |

Mario Theisen is with BMW in WTCC, too, so even though it looks like the board of directors of BMW pulledf the plug on their F1 effort, they probably wouldn't want to let him go.
So at this point, it is not clear who the management would consist of in case of a management buyout. But with Cosworth returning, the qestion of engines should be easier to solve for Sauber than it was for the team from Brackley last time around. As driving experience is essential for a "new team", I can see Sauber keeping Heidfeld for next year, with maybe a wealthy sponsor bringing aboard their man, which in case of Malaysian oil company Petronas surely would be Fairuz Fauzy, who was a one time-points leader in the A1GP series, much to everyone's surprise, on merit. So that would be a nice perspective for the team - if only the buyout had already taken place and all the sponsors had already payed upfront. |

Well, you can also consider Piquet Sports buying a stake on the team in order to get Nelsinho into one of the avaliable seats...

I don't think all is lost yet. See what Joe Saward has to say on the subject. The thought of Ferrari engines is interesting, although somehow it doesn't fit with Peter Sauber.
Still, he doesn't want to be a team principal any more and Piquet's own GP2 team has turned itself into a competitive force again, after a lapse following Nelson's departure, so who knows? |
