Sato gone from Jordan??
According to Gazzetta dello Sport - a quote from Giancarlo Fisichella:
"Mi ha ringraziato e mi ha detto che questo risultato fa bene a tutta la squadra che sta vivendo un momento di attesa. Io nel 2003 resterò alla Jordan e in squadra cambieranno tante cose. Avremo un nuovo motore, un budget molto più importante e anche un nuovo pilota al posto di Sato. Ma non posso dire chi sarÃ*". meaning: "He (Eddie Jordan) thanked me and told me that this result is good for the whole team, which is living a good moment. In 2003, I will stay at Jordan and many things will change. We will have a new engine, a much more important <bigger> budget, and also a new driver in Sato's place. But I can't say who it will be." Can anyone confirm this?? |

Cannot confirm, but I'll bet its The Swerve!

If anyones going to replace Taku at Jordan then i hope it's Eddie (i have a thing about drivers returning to their original team before finishing their F1 careers!), however, i do hope to see Taku in F1 somewhere next year!

I hope this is wrong. Taku - along with Felipe Massa - has been stunning to watch all season and it would be a shame to see either of them go

There is no driver in the world who'll say his teammate is leaving, before the team itself makes an official statement.
About Honda slashing off its links with Takuma. Total bull****, the links were never official, merely coincidental. In the quoted sentence, Honda is only confirming what Eddie Jordan is saying to anyone who cares to listen: THERE ARE NO TIES BETWEEN SATO AND HONDA (and Sato did therefor not get his seat because of it). Some people are just so stubborn, you have to repeat over and over again before they get it. Anyone who truly think refinement is in order probably cares for dull drivers who never take a risk (Ralfish I would say). Yes, Takuma is inexperienced, yes Takuma takes risks, yes they dont always pay off. But at the end of the line, Takuma is one of those very few true racers who keep defining the word 'racer' in an era where being a racer and the risktaking that comes with it, will be held against you. Thats whats wrong with racing. People no longer understand what it is about. For instance, Jos Verstappen shruks off his failures against Bernoldi in qualifying in 2001 by saying he is quicker in the race and points are only given for that race. In other words, beating your teammate (or whoever) only matters when it makes you score points. In my understanding of racing, beating the other competitor always matters. A departure of Takuma, even if it is temporarily, is F1's loss, because it means modern Formula 1 has no place for thoroughbred racers any more. Last edited by NiceGuyEddie; 27 Jul 2002 at 21:05. |

Agreed, Takuma is a racer. A great racer. And it makes a change to see one in modern F1 - especially since the departure of Alesi. But he needs to calm himself down and stop throwing the car off.
As for his replacement... STICK HEINZ IN THE CAR!!! COME ON EDDIE!!!!!!

I know....lets start a new racing series up....we will take ...JPM , KIMI , MASSA , SATO ETC ETC ETC...
and you lot who dont like racing drivers giving it their all or would rather see drivers keep thir posotions steady and driving below the limit can have TGF , RALF ,RUBENS , etc etc.... i would rather watch a driver that is as passoinate as Sato any day rather than watching drivers back off so their team mate can take the win right at the last moment , or even think twice about making a move just because the oppenent is hios brother .. come on, we want racers dont we ?...well i do . |

All Sato needs is a point and he be off and running, the guy has calmed himself down in the last 4 or so races, provided great entertainment to the fans and still he gets put down! I feel sorry for him, at the beginning of the season i'll admit i wasn't too sure on him, but he's definatly turned me round!

I doubt it , it all sounds like complete BS to me .
It may be that Sato doesnt drive at Jordan next year , but all the BS about it seems to be clouding the truth of what his or JORDANS plans will be . |

Why don't we consider who is available and what the costs are. For a start, I think Eddie would be well advised to get a driver who is less costly than Eddie - somebody like Mark Webber. Mark is a real tryer, racer, and most importantly, he is not a whinger. For that reason alone, I must say that Eddie Irvine is not the ideal candidate. Anyone who constantly complains that if the car is not better, I'll leave should be shown the door. Goodbye Eddie. A good driver like Mark would simply try harder to try to resolve the problem, and drive harder during his races. What about Mark Gene?
I have been thinking sriously of what Reido posted about HHF since he corrected the year to 2003 (from 2004). This does make a lot of sense - because it does appear that HHF is amenable to such an arrangement, it would allow Eddie to mend fences and save a helluval lot of money not having to pay HHF to drive for someone else, and get the only top notch driver still available. Heck, I forgot - I don't want to see Sato gone from F1, the above post was about who is best to replace him. Maybe Sato should go somewhere else in the scheme of musical chairs. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if Ove snaps up HHF.

If Takuma has to go, I believe it has more to do with Jordan's sponsors squeezing EJ, than his performances. He has demonstrated that he IS a racer, and after some early teething problems, has shown real skill.
Ah well, we know F1 is a business anyway.

I hope it's not Irvine. He doesn't deserve any seat in F1. He's past his best and has only put in occassionally good performances since his podium in Monaco last year.
Some young, quick driver should be given the seat, or why not just keep Sato there. He's been very impressive of late. Would be a shame to see him go. |
