Looks like OWRS is going to team up with Grand-Am in Mexico City this year... |

Very interesting.
Grand Am is a NASCAR product - and I'd always assumed it had closer links to the IRL than ChampCar. Interesting times ahead. |

www.grand-am.com: "DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 4, 2005) -- Officials from Champ Car World Series, LLC, the Grand American Road Racing Association and race promoters OCESA jointly announced today that the season-ending Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series event at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City will be held on Saturday, November 5.
The race will be run on the same weekend as the 2005 Champ Car World Series season finale scheduled for Sunday, November 6 at the 2.786-mile permanent road course. The Rolex Series event--which will likely be run under the series' "sprint race" format--will be the first foray into Mexico for the six-year-old sports car racing organization. The inaugural Rolex Series race in Mexico City was previously scheduled for December 2-4, but the date change to November allows the series close the season within the traditional racing calendar..." ... and Ganassi back in the paddock |

So GA is going to share a weekend with Champcar and a weekend with the IRL this year. Hmmm.

Grand Am already shared a weekend last year with the IRL..at Homestead....
Grand Am and the France Falmily are playing their own game, as you already know....OWRS is a convenient marriage for them in Mexico...look who has a piece of that track as a promoter, etc., where they will be racing.... Mr. Forsythe....at least that is the way I understand it... |

Perhaps running with NASCAR in Vegas has helped to open some previously-closed doors?

NASCAR doing something to help CC or OW racing without any ulterior motives behind it.......hmmm, I don't think so!

Grand Am running with Champ Car doesn't really help Champcar at all. They were already going to be running there. But by piggybacking onto the Champcar race, Grand Am moves into Mexico... So it helps Grand Am, but not Champcar.

Could NASCAR want to take over ChampCar and IRL, and make them one series, so it would then have IndyCar, GrandAm and NASCAR all under one ownership?
That may be the ultimate aim for them. |

Nascar is making a big push into Mexico, it seems logical they would want Grand Am to follow suit. Personally, I think it's simply a case of attaching themselves to an established series and hoping a few fans rub off onto them.
If Nascar wanted to make a play for the open wheel market surely they would have snapped up Champ Car on the cheap when it was at death's door this time last year? It wouldn't have taken much for their marketing men to breathe life back into the series. Would have been a nail in the IRL coffin aswell I'd imagine. |

Very interesting....
The last time Champcar did a "favour" for the France's, we got Las Vegas out of the deal.......what could we put on the shopping list this time as a thank you for letting Grand-Am run with Champcar? Michigan? Fontana? Please mind yourself as you exit my dreamworld people, Macdaddy's drooling has left a few damp spots on the floor! |
