1997 was pretty crazy, especially as Blundell was completely oblivious to the fact that he'd won when he passed de Ferran on the line.

My favourite Portland memory is being at the snow, waking up in the middle of the night to watch Alex Zanardi win in 1998.

He then stopped at the end of the main straight and motioned to the crowd as if to ask, "do you want the donuts?"

The crowd went berserk and he went to start doing some donuts, but stalled his engine.

He needed a push start so he could complete his pirouettes.

There were only 17 runners in P1. For some reason Bremer did not participate in P1. Does anyone know why?

The following news release is the only information I have heard so far.

The statement should be attributed to Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport.

“Bridgestone Motorsport and the HVM, Inc., racing team have contractual matters relating to tire security under review. The parties involved are working together to resolve the issues. As part of this process, Bridgestone Motorsport and HVM agreed in a meeting this morning that the number 55 car would not participate in the first practice session at Portland.”

Maybe someone at HVM had been roughing up the tires in the garage area!

It's interesting in Q1 that RuSport is fast, Tag 4th, Ranger is leading the rookies.

Due to boost related difficulties, Servia is only one spot in front of Spirafico and Valiente one spot behind.

Apparently Bourdais was 3rd, but has his fastest lap taken away for coming out of the pits as Wilson came by on a fast lap.

The weather today was off and on sprinkles all day. At some points the track was pretty wet. It isn't surprising that RuSport is fast in Q1 as AJ and Wilson had the 2 fastest times in the testing they did a few months back.

Have a good weekend there Travis, hopefully without too much to do. RuSport's early speed is encouraging, hopefully Servia's lack of pace is purely mechanical, and let's hope HVM can get things sorted out behind the scenes.

We were a little busier than Travis (at T12). I notice that Nelson Philippe didn't come out for quallys after clouting the wall in the first few laps of practice (overcorrected at exit). I guess they didn't want to risk losing more parts, and he does have another qualifying opportunity today.

Another day of watching the Atlantics skate around on slicks in the drizzle...

I saw Phillipe's incident, rather silly if you ask me. There was a lot of action in the rain at the end of the back stretch with the Atlantics...good stuff
