For the first rounds last year we started with 20 cars. It's looks unusual to see so few running. At this rate the last person in race 2 will be on pole for race 3!!

Pathetic really, I hope TOCA have some idea what went wrong, and how to fix ti for later in the year. It'll look terrible for any TV viewers tomorrow.

Wow, that's awful. Sad to see the series has declined so much Haven't really kept up with off-season events I must admit so this comes as a bit of a shock.

This is absolutely appalling. A disgrace, in fact.
They should surely run the SEAT Cupra cup as a Class B of the BTCC to make the fields look respectable - there's a pitiful entry in that too. |

I know, it looks horrible. I'm still going to complain that there are too MANY in the WTCC too though!
What went wrong is half the cars that are supposed to turn up withdrew or haven't got their act together yet (MG 2nd car, GA Motorsport, TechSpeed, Arena). Hopefully with a bit of coaxing, VX & Seat, and maybe Team Dynamics can organise 3/4 car efforts again to keep the grid up. Anyway...practice 2: Code:

Engine problems. Hopefully resolved by tomorrow. He should be able to get past that Lexus. If one car drops out in race two, he'll have pole!
If you DNF but are classified 10th etc. do they count that as pole when they reverse it? Don't think it ever got that low last year. |

11 or 12 cars? That's unbelievable! Like Knockhill Fan I'd not kept up with BTCC news in the off-season, myself being a single-seater follower first and foremost. I tend to only pick up with the BTCC once it's in front of me on a TV screen.
When I saw MST only listing what seemed like half the field, I assumed the site was just playing up (which it has been today). But now I see that really is the case... How on earth did things decline so quickly? Surely their only option is to combine the grids by adding the pathetically small Cupra field as has been said. I was planning on going to Thruxton, mainly to see the F.Renault and BMW support races, but now that trip looks like seriously poor value for money - especially looking at the size of the Porsche field too, and the Clios to a lesser extent Surely this will hit gate numbers badly, and for TV viewers a day vegging out in front of Motors TV isn't quite as tempting anymore... |

I'm not excited at all now. And it will look awful on ITV live as people have said.
I was planning on going to Donington tomorrow, instead im off to Kimbolton to watch some karting, much bigger grids and just as good. Nothing else to say, pathetic. |

Too much knocking before seeing here....
I don't recall seeing much more on TV than two Honda's, two Seat's, 3 Vauxhall's and a pair of MG's fighting for the top 10 last year...I don't foresee anything different (excep one more Honda with Kaye, one less MG and one more Seat). It's all the mid-field/back markers that have run off...trackside I know this size grid will look bad, but I'm curious to see how much of it the camera will hide. Outside of Proctor & Williams, the fields darn close...I still expect a few good races tomorrow...shall we wait? |

Looking forward to a great year..... Not!!!!
Just seen the results of the practise and qualifying...
What a joke! 11, maybe 12 cars... 2 of which (ie both Integras) you can't buy in this country (officially in the eyes of the manufacturer) In the 2nd race, even if you have a problem and have a bit of luck theres a good chance you could end up on pole for the 3rd race... I could go on... but... |

I hope Alan Gow is reading this... This too is putting me off going to a Touring car race this year, what if theres a large start line crash and some teams can't repair their cars? A grid of 9? Then expect a few to retire due to accidents... you could see a race finishing with just 6 cars... I don't expect that to be too exciting!
This is really depressing, and nothing is going to happen about it in the short term, very frustrating! |

Very disappointing
this is just awful hardly worth getting up at 6.00am for the 2 hour journey tomorrow. Bet ITV won't stand it for long. How has this happened ? Teach me to order tickets in advance, well at least Kids are free at Donington.
I shall not be paying £50 for me and my 13y.o to get into Oulton for such a small grid. |

It's pretty sad as I had been expecting announcements this week that would bolster the grid. I think that something will have to be done as it is embarrassing to say that this is Britain's premier racing series (or whatever the marketing phrase is). I've no doubt that the racing will be close and exciting and Muller and Plato are bound to find each other, but one bad start from someone and a quarter of the field could be out!!!

Idea!
How about if we all put some money together and buy one of last years cars, get a top drive and run a team for a year to help the grid?
