The better half of each team
OK, we've got a thread asking who's the better half of the grid, but I thought I'd change that round a little - who's the better half of each team? Which is the better driver, in your opinion? We'll probably all agree on quite a few, but I just know we won't on others
 For me, it's like this: Ferrari - Michael, obviously. Williams - JPM, just. And he's getting better. McLaren - Kimi, by more every race. BAR - Button, cos he can get the car home sometimes. Renault - Alonso, by miles. Jordan - Has to be Fisi, but I still don't think he's that great. Toyota - Panis, better than we give him credit for. Jaguar - Webber, future star. Sauber - Heidfeld, not yet missed his chance. Minardi - Jos the Boss, though probably not for long. Last edited by garcon; 4 Jul 2003 at 17:58. |

I'd go for.....
Ferrari: Michael, no question. Williams: I'll cause a storm and say for pure speed, Ralf. McLaren: Kimi, getting better and better Renault: Alonso is positively embarassing Trulli. Jordan: Easy peasy. Fisssssssi. Sauber: Frentzen..his drives this year have been much underrated. BAR: Button, surprisingly. Toyota: look at the stats and it's easily Panis. Unlucky as hell. Jaguar: only one choice, surely? Webber. Minardi: Jos, but it's getting closer. |

This one is easy:
Ferrari - Michael by miles and miles and miles and miles and... Williams - Tie - I know this is taking the easy way out. But they really are quite evenly matched. McLaren - Kimi - David, time to go chase chicks full time. BAR - Button. Jacques, see my advice to David. Renault - Alonso. The future of F1. Jordan - Fisi, by miles. Toyota - Panis. Give him a good car, and watch out! Jaguar - Webber. Wow. Looking forward to a decade of him scrapping with Alonso for WDC's. Sauber - Heidfeld - in a good car, he is as good as most. Minardi - Wilson. He impresses me more and more. |

Ferrari - MS (no contest)
Williams - Montoya McLaren - Raikkonen Renault - Alonso (no contest) BAR - Button (this year at least) Jaguar - Webber. Jordan - Fisichella Sauber - Heidfeld (now; Frentzen's past his best) Toyota - tie. Panis seems to have a slight edge but bear in mind this is CDM's first season in F1. Minardi - tie. |

This was just set up to create more Ralf v JPM rowing, wasn't it?
Ferrari - Michael Williams - After all the argument in the past week, I'd better abstain McLaren - Kimi, DC's had his day Renault - Alonso, quicker on Saturday let alone Sunday Sauber - Heidfeld has been closer to the pace Jordan - Firman's worked harder, Fisichella's been cruising since Brazil, and I can see Ralph getting better results as the season goes on Jaguar - Webber of course BAR - Jenson seems to have proved himself above jacques, although JV's spirit will be well down Minardi - Jos has been quicker, but Justin's rookie form has been imrpessive, especially those starts Toyota - I'm gonna buck the trend here as well - Da Matta's done really well without preseason testing, and Panis' retirements haven't come with points in the offing (other than last weekend), and his one point was earnt because Cristiano broke down with a few laps left. |

I think the rookies Wilson and DaMatta have been showing up their far more experienced teammates by staying so close to their pace. Panis and Verstappen have both been in F1 since the mid-90s.

Ferrari - TGF (Unfortunately)and he will make sure it is never any different
Williams - really diffcult - JPM for the racing but too many mistakes. Ralf for getting it home consistently McLaren - Kimi without doubt Renault - Alonso - (Trulli should be out with DC at the end of the year) Jordan - Fisi - although Ralph was closer at Nurburgring than I expected him to get on earlier form. BAR - Button Sauber - Difficult - has to have been the quietest - not seen team this year - Heidfeld just. Jaguar - No doubt - Webber - think he's doing things with that car that it certainly doesn't deserve. Toyota - Close - DaMatta - Impressive debut and I think has more future potential Minardi - Wilson - see above. |

This list is easier then it has been in the past, so I'll only comment where I think it's a little more interesting:
I'm not trying to be a JV booster, but getting the car home has had nothing to do with the driver. JV has pretty much been slower, but sounds like a lot of **** has been going on. I will reserve my judgement for now. At the very least, Button proved that he should not have been writen off last year. I've been surprised Da Matta hasn't done better, but it's been pretty close between the two (considering experience, track time). I think Da Matta will prove to be faster by the end of the year. |

Here's my 2cents:
Ferrari- TGF is the king, no question, no surprise. Williams- Tough call here, both are coming on strong, but JPM takes more chances and I like that. Mclaren- Kimi, he is beating DC pretty consistently now. Renault- Trulli. He's had terrible luck this year. Everyone here likes Alonso, but two bad missteps, running through Webbers accident in Brazil, and early braking that almost killed DC tell me he's not quite the man yet. Jordan- Fisi for sure, but he's been terrible since Brazil. BAR- Button, he took all the pressure JV could dish out, and stuck it to him by outdrivng him Sauber- Heidfeld, only because you have to pick someone Jaguar- Webber, he took the Jag team to respectability and is a real future star Toyota- DaMatta Minardi- Wilson for sure. His passes from the back of the pack have become almost legendary. A great future So there it is, and who cares, right!

 Top stuff.Ferrari: TGB Williams: So close. I'd say JPM only because of things like Nurburgring, because he took Michael on and won. He'll push knowing the possible consequences. McLaren: Kimi. DC = PR. Renault: Alonso. He's a top driver. Next year, even better. Jaguar: Webber. Absolutely whizzing on Pizzonia. At the start of the year, either one could have earnt no 1 spot. BAR: Hard to say with all their problems, but slightly leaning towards Button. Could change any race. Sauber: Heidfield. Faster than Frentzen from what I recall. Jordan: Fisi. Firman's not all that far off on sundays but can't beat him. But I reckon Fisi's pretty good anyway. Minardi: Wilson. It's actually a close call to me because hasn't Verstappen finished ahead a fair few times? But what that boy does out of the box... At least it's something that stands out. And that's what he and minardi need. |

He has done a great job and Panis is one of the best drivers in the field and is vastly under rated, mostly by you guys!
