Cheap Lap timers
Anyone got recommendations, where I can buy a cheap lap timer, just something basic and compact. To go on a FF.
Cheers all Richard |

Yes the 'Rollcentre' LT32 or LT100, its about £150 and they seem to work quite well. You may even be able to pick up a S/H one - I've not used mine this year.

AIM do nice ones. Start from about 150 upwards (My
Take a look at their main site www.aim-sportline.com and the UK supplier is www.speedlog.co.uk The simplest one they do is MyChron Light. Battery powered. Provides RPM pickup and lap timing. No wiring necessary. |

That is what I do, but it aint cheap I apologise for the sterotypical joke (which isn't even true!).
Actually she is very good because I get notes about back markers etc on teh correcponding lap. She is also very good, always with less than 0.1 compared with the MST timing. Also she can point out if I was talking rubbish about catching/pulling away from someone in the race. Invaluable. |

yes but it doesn't help in improving your time from lap to lap does it as the data is too old by the time you get it.

I use a Rollcentre T100 without any problem. One thing, most circuits have beacons so you shouldn't need your own. Also on Rollcentre (and I assume others?), be careful with the blanking time if other people are using their own beacons. The blanking time gives you a space where it won't detect other beacons. Normally set at 15 seconds.

Perhaps it would be useful to compile a list of circuits that have there own beacons. Here will do I suppose. Which circuits have you been to that have their own beacon for Rollcentre timers?

All of the UK circuits with the exception of Cadwell Club and Anglesey have a Pi monster beacon fitted which transmits on their Channel 0. For the exact location of these please see the www.piresearch.com website.

The Kartronix timer is a good value piece of kit, its essentially the same as the Rollcentre LT32, mine stores 32 laps in the memory, which is enough for most club races.
