I’ve been thinking about this and its not a silly as it seems, the publicity the btcc will get from this will be great, look out for show biz news at the rest of this week and see how many times this gets mentioned, also I remember I tv program a long time ago where a bloke who’s name escapes me, won some money on the lottery and decided to setup a girl pop group who turned out to be atomic kitten, thinking back I also remember that he was a very keen motor sport fan.. kill two birds with one stone promote his girl band and be part of a racing team all in one go ….

As I've said before, I think for this new era of touring cars to be succesful it needs more non-motorsport sponsors, like NASCAR has.

This team ran a Chevrolet Corvette in the ELMs and British GT championships, it didn't do brilliantly but it only had a few outings with little testing and unknown drivers.
So it's not a novice team, two young hot shots in a proven winner, this team is gonna be up there. |

The car looks great. As Eddie said, hopefully more "external" sponsors will jump on the boat and that in turn should punblicise the BTCC more.
Ps did anyone see that MG's works cars(BTCC, JWRC & Le Mans) are to have sponsorship from Hot Wheels? |

On the subject of Hot Wheels there will be models of certain MGs available later this year (they didn't say which ones). Also the works cars have a new colour scheme - black at the front fading to grey at the back, rather than all grey as last year. Same green highlights.

For those of you that have not realised the AK cars are the 2001 MGs, Reid and Hughes get new cars.

Seeing as the teams have to provide their own grid girls this year, maybe AK will fill the role themselves.
This also explains why we haven't heard anything lately about the teams sportscar program. What do we think about driver choice, Gareth Howell & Gary Turkington. don't worry about trying their websites for any news, neither www.akmotorsport.com or www.atomickitten.com have been updated since January |

Pop goes touring car racing
Whole again: there will be four MGs in this year's BTCC Girl band Atomic Kitten and MG Sport and Racing have joined forces to create a new team to compete in this year's British Touring Car Championship with a pair of MG ZSs. Gareth Howell and Gary Turkington will drive the year-old cars in the series, which kicks off at Oulton Park on April 21. The cars will run under the banner of Team Atomic Kitten and will sport a distinctive yellow and black livery. "We are really proud to be associated with MG," said Atomic Kitten's Jenny Frost, who had two UK number one singles in 2001. "They are a very dynamic company who are going places. When the opportunity arose to work alongside MG on the BTCC programme we jumped at it." The cars will runs independently of the works MG team, which is aiming for the title this year after winning two races in its debut season. "We wanted to find a way to run four cars this year," said Rob Oldaker, managing director of MG Sport and Racing. "The most obvious way was by finding an independent team to lease the cars from last year. The fact that we have managed to bring in Atomic Kitten as part of this deal is magnificent for both MG and for the TOCA Tour itself." |

Looking at the back of the grid,
I can see two places where the MG's are hid, They don't stand a chance, With a girl band who can't dance, So they will finish last again..... |
