Japan, Mexico and South Africa in WRC?
All three are being considered, according to Dave Richards:

Japan makes sense for the manufacturers ( especially if Mitsubishi get back), I'd rather see a US / Canadian round for the North / Central American venue, and there should definitely be an African round, whether it's down south or up around Dakar territory.

I agree with Spode, they should consider a North American Rally.

Well, they _could_ hold it right across the US border in Mexico, that'd allow people to travel down from LA and San Diego.
But personally, I think a round in Quebec probably makes the most sense for a North American event. Le Rallye International de Charlevoix would probably make the most painless transition onto the WRC calendar. The Quebecquois love motorsport, and it's close enough for some Americans to driver up for a weekend. http://www.rallye-charlevoix.com/ An American WRC round probably won't come off as long as the SCCA is running ProRally. The management is grossly incompetent at promotion. Better that IMSA take over and create a unified North American series. Y'know, a championship with some prestige that can possible propel drivers from the western hemisphere into WRC. Last edited by Lee Janotta; 20 Jan 2003 at 17:48. |

well on the scca front, several rallies stateside have had FIA observers at them in the last year/half. Ramada (in Arizona) and some rallies in Maine and Oregon have to.
As a little random trivia: drug smugglers often use baja-esque livery to try and smuggle drugs posing as competitors from Mexico to the US |
