Best (or least worst) looking Daytona Prototype?
OK, so the reaction to the formula has been rather dismal, to the point where Grand Am's most loyal fans question it, and the cars are slow and the greenhouse's are rather silly in thier size.
Having said that, is there any of the cars that appeal to you in any way? If someone twisted my leg, I would say the Fabcar/Porsche. If you can ignore the greenhouse area, the lines are not that bad. The paint scheme is great as well, and if I had to pick one out of the bunch as my "favorite", it would be this one. On the opposite end, the Doran has to be the worst, in my view. I see what they are doing in the design department, trying to get the car low and GTP like, but the greenhouse just makes it look like a really low car with a roof that looks even bigger than the other DPs. OK, so most of us don't like the concept at all, but if you had to pick the best or the worst, what would it be? |

I like Multimatic...a lot of the people said it looks ugly but I find it to be the most attractive...

I have no problem with the "cost control" concept of DSP, but they are all UGLY. The greenhouses make the cars look like streamlined AMC Pacers.

Since there are so few, I can comment on each one.
Fabcar: Quite sleek, looks fast. Looks anyway. Doran: Rather eggish. Best paint job yet though. Multimatic: The only one that looks the role. True race car. Picchio: UGLY!! Never like the perfomance or looks of the SRPII car. Ditto. It's pretty sad that the Mosler and Gunnar Jeanette Porsche look more like prototypes than GA's "new exciting class." Race more like prototypes than the DPs too. |

Sorry, as Pirenzo and Co, I'll say 'not one' they look like the ugly prototypes we saw at Lm in the 70' (made in the backyard)...
Sad GrandAm... PS : the GTs are ok though, and fast ! Last edited by Fab; 28 Feb 2003 at 16:06. |

If the Fabcar was about 125% it's current size width and length, at the same height, it'd look pretty good. The proportions of these cars are just _awful_, though. No matter how hard you polish a dookie...

No idea. I thought it was British, but it might be from the west coast of the US.

Yup. Big American flag doesn't belong on an Italian car with a German engine and an Austrian sponsor.
I'd be like a massive Union Jack on a Volvo. Last edited by Lee Janotta; 1 Mar 2003 at 03:30. |

Yup the flag's got to go, Infact any flag should be off a car unless it is integral to the car-A MINI witha union jack looks proper even if it is BMW made now (hmm..) The toyota fabcar was it, and the multimatic ford were the best of this horrible bunch, really the dp are hideous, perhaps if the greenhouse was a tad narrower, or shaped. These look like mutilated pieces of bread, much more so than the Pilbeam magic brownies car, i love the 675's they are upstarts (in a proper ALMS type field) Grand AM should call it quits..another thread perhaps?

Seriously though, what I can't get my head around with the DSPs is the effect that the rollcage and greenhouse dimensions have on the proportions of the whole shape- it just makes them look too wide, and too short and stubby. If you can deal with that, then the Brumos and Picchio in particular don't look as bad.... |

Grand Am thinks they look good....
But even a male baboon thinks that a female baboon looks good, too....doesn't mean that it is true to the rest of the world.... |
