Mark Lovell

I've just seen some very sad news from the USA- former British Champion Mark Lovell and co-driver Roger Freeman were both killed when their Impreza hit a tree on the opening stage of the Oregon Trails SCCA ProRally-

RIP to both, and condolences to their family and friends

My webmaster is attending that rally and will have more on this story when he returns. Very, very sad news indeed. They and their families are in my prayers.

Here's to a great career

I remember his 1986 British Rally Championship winning year in the Ford RS200, won on consistency, rather than victories. A fantastic driver on tarmac, i have on tape the 1987 Circuit of Ireland, where he in the Sierra went at it over the whole rally with Bertie Fisher in his Opel Manta, some great footage of them both throwing their cars around narrow roads.

Very sad news, a great rally driver who will sadly missed.

Thats shocking news - watched him at Pikes Peak last year and realised he was still racing having not seen him since his days in the UK. Condolences to both families.

Man, this was an unfortunate accident and a bigger loss for the Subaru team. Pray for the families and a moment of silence is needed.

Just heard about this....terrible news. Lovell was a great driver, I remember his British campaigns in the 1980s, and Freeman was in WRC action just a couple of years ago...awful news.

Truly awful news, in what has been a bad year already. What makes it worse for me was seeing the Subaru crew at Goodwood going about their business, only to find out the awful news I can't believe I was looking at a poster outside their garage of Mark's car, little realising he had died.

RIP - a great champion who'll be fondly remembered and badly missed

I got into rallying 3 years ago and being a Subaru fan I thought Mark Lovell was THE MAN. I came into this thread expecting to see some good news only to read hes dead. Damn, my heart sank when I read that.

RIP Lovell

We have put up a photo tribute to them on our website www.rfmsports.com

Over the weekend Speed Channel broadcast the midseason roundup and it was both sad and comforting to see Lovell in so many of the segments -- obviously he was very happy with what he was doing, and that was good to know ... but so hard to realise he has gone ...

Speed showed the Oregon Trail rally today, starting with a touching tribute montage to Mark and Roger.

This has just been such an awful year, especially for the rally guys at Subaru. 3 of the best gone.
