Just flicked through C&CC mag... There's an interesting article on Formula Saloons.

Does anyone know how many cars there are going to be running this year and also the race dates???

I'm hoping for Combe, Thruxton or Zolder...

Try www.formulasaloons.com

Zolder is May 20-21st, Thruxton June 18th and Combe Aug 28th - hope that helps. The site will give you a full calendar and run-down of all the cars and teams entered.

I'm hoping to get to the Castle Combe race in August. It clashes with the BTCC and Brands, but Brands is quite a bit further away than Combe, plus it's about the only time I can fit in a visit to the Formula Saloons, and I've never been to Castle Combe. My agenda for this year is to go to as many circuits as possible and to see as many different types of racing as possible - anyone else fancy Trucks and Fireworks (and 2CVs!!) at Donington on 4-5th November??

Excellent!!!!

I'm going to all three of those meetings..

Come to Combe - its an excellent circuit. Do you want me to find out what else is going on that day? Sounds like the Formula Saloons will have much better grids than BTCC anyway...

Lee, last season he was racing a Holden Commodore... Amazing beast it was too - even if they didn't quite seem to be able to work out how to stop the thing billowing smoke and depositing oil everywhere!

Ric Woods Calibra is in Autosport Classifieds again this week. Lee's question prompted me to look at again, and in the smaller print at the bottom, it's described as

"The fastest steel bodied saloon car in Britain."

Can this be the truth?! Just what is 'fast' anyway? Is it the quickest acceleration? (surely slower than one of the 'Street Eliminator' cars described in another topic on this very forum) Is it top speed? 0 - 100mph - 0 test? What gives?

By the way, is this the very Calibra debuted at Brands 'Thunder Saloons' in '94? Or another one? That one had Pontiac V8 power I seem to remember.

Do Hooker and Ward still race Escort Cossies?

I've got some great old Thunder Saloon pics too.

Does anyone remember Mike Chittenden and Fred Taylors Cossie-powered Mk2 RS2000 going off with a stuck throttle at Riches, Snetterton? I managed to get into the Scrutie shed and roll off a couple of shots! What a mess!!

OOPS!

I just read the Triple C article!

No more scratch built specials... No more than 480 brake... Not the Formula Saloons I remember!

Ric Wood Calibra

The Calibra should be out in 2013 with a new driver, probably in the CNC heads race series based at Oulton Park.
