Villeneuve back with Williams in '05
Food for thought with Ralf and Juan exiting stage left.
A great opportunity for Williams to regain Championship status with Canada's best. Stay tuned! |

Don't think he'd settle for Jordan, maybe Sauber. I don't think Williams or McLaren are willing to take a chance with him. Who knows, JV is the only recent driver of left Williams out of his own choice and one of the few drivers who Williams seems to respect. Crazier things have happened.

Villeneuve is history....teams like Sauber couldn't afford to hire him if they want to IMO. And with his attitute, i doubt the top teams would even consider him as an option.

He has style, and alot of fans because of his erratic style and outspoken attitude. Sauber sounds good! Maybe his short retirement will have taught him something.....naaa

I've added another (more realistic) option so everyone can vote.
Welcome to the forum F1tyre. There are still a few die-hard JV fans around here, but like Jacques himself, many have moved on. The real problem here with fans dreaming up these unlikley scenario's, is JV is stuck in limbo. At least once he formally announces his retirement, we can stop talking about this stuff and start to remember the driver he once was. |

I'd love to jump on a JV thread.
I'd like to see him in a top F1 team. BUT only JV and the top teams know what will happen ???? I'll wait to jump on the JV band wagon. I think JV will play guitar, ski and enjoy life. It's not in his hands but in the teams. GOOD LUCK TO HIM !!! |

I seriously doubt that he'll be back in F1. I'd love to see him back, it's wrong for a former champ to go out the way he has, but he has floundered at BAR for so long, teams probably won't take him for the fact they don't even know if he has it any longer. Button made that car fast, but JV hardly did. Good luck to him anyway.

Well, i doubt he'd go to Jordan or Sauber. McLaren will have Montoya and Raikkonen and Williams will have Button and Webber, so JV is history imo!

He's gone. End of story. The top teams won't want him and the rest can't afford him.

Would Jacques be willing to drive for a team like Jordan for free though? It wouldn't do anything for his reputation, and he's already failed to guide a team forward once.
Williams is a posisbility. Frank still seems to hold him in high regard, there are no hard feelings over his exit in 1998, and there will probably be two available seats. For all his faults, he'd do better than Ralf, and if he'd drive for free, that's another £13m to spend on the car. There's little to gain in buying both Webber and Button out of their contracts when someone like Jacques is on the shelf. Remember how well Prost did after a sabbatical in similar circumstances. |

I seem to remember a number of interviews with Patrick Head and others from Williams that JV would be back at williams "over their dead bodies"
Anyhow, he was not that good a driver, he was luckl to have won the WDC in 97, considering how bad the ferrari was compared to the williams of the time. Last edited by 1200Datto27; 12 Mar 2004 at 10:49. |

Yes that Ferrari was dreadful in '97.
It was only at least the second best car thanks to TGF's feedback from the previous year. Absolutely horrendous! |

My tuppence worth
As a fan of JV, and his dad before him, there is one major reason why he won't be back. He won't do the promo work!!
No F1 team can afford to have a driver (free or otherwise) who doesn't do his bit for the sponsors who dole out the money to help them run their teams. Sorry but it all boils down to f money |
