Greenback has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Safety Car

Is there any reason why FIA or FOM are always using AMG safety car? Why not an M5, RS4 or Maserati etc.

FPV GTHO should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Mercedes could be sponsoring them in order to get their cars used

Mercedes supply the car, the rest don't! Simple as that. They have also done a lot of work to hone the different cars to the specification required. They are quite a piece of kit. In return the car appears on telly.

And it also allows Mercedes to have more than just two of their engines out on track this season.

No doubt that BMW will be putting a bid in for the contract next time around.

Wasn't it at Monaco a couple of years ago, whilst checking the track they ploughed it into the barriers?

That made me chuckle!

Mercedes supply the four Safety & Course Cars (two of each) for the F1 to use.

It is up to the locals to provide the other vehicles used over the course of the weekend and for any support classes running.

For the past few years BMW has been providing the local Safety, Course & Medical vehicles, for this year it changed to Alfa Romeo.

I vaguely remember an incident a few years ago where the British Grand Prix almost didn't start. Allegedly, Sid, the chief marshall was told that the V12 Jag with the big fire extinguisher tank in place of the back seat, wasn't allowed to follow the cars off the grid. It was to be a Mercedes, for the first time, due to whatever sponsorship deal was and apparently, still is in place. I can't remember where I got this from, but at the time worked with quite a high ranking marshall. Anyone else have any recollection of this?

I must say that at Spa, you can hear the Merc above the sound of the F1 engines and it's a marvellous sound echoing off the hills.

Mercades do F1, BMW do Moto GP. Seem's fair to me.

I think it was Alex Ribeiro (or his brother Fernando) driving it.

The Merc that was used for Syd Watkins was also damaged. It stopped on the grass near a damaged car as the door was opened somebody else went off and ripped the door off! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIwSP...elated&search=

It was Brazil, and I believed it was Nick Heidfeld.
