Personally I think it was rubbish that Porsche pulled out to allow Audi a clear run.

If not why did Porsche not return in 2003 or at the very least 2004 when Audi did not have works entries.

Isn't it jsut another review of their activities. Unfortunatly I don't think we'll see anything for at least two years. I hope I'm wrong though.

Porsche should be at Le Mans for overall wins.

I would also expect to see Porsche back on the track at Le Mans around 2006 for overall wins again. I hope that they would come in 2005, but that is a slim chance, very slim. Porsche are the best at LM and that is where they need to stay!! I can;t wait till they are back!!

An "open" or "closed" P1 Porsche to return with?

Regarding that Porsche have stated that they are in the process of deciding to come back to Le Mans, what type of car would they choose to come back in. A closed P1 or an open P1? Personally, I would like to see a closed P1, but it does not matter to me because it is Porsche. In the AutoWeek article, it said that Porsche still have the LMP2000's and might bring those back to use. Ummmm, I wonder what Porsche will do????

Its gotta be a closed one... I think thats really gonna be the way Lemans revives itself with manufacturer involvment.

The new rules are said to favour closed cars. But I don't care. Le Mans without Porsche isn't the same.

porsche will be back at lemans with a closed-top LMP1. i would expect to see them at sebring in '06 and then at lemans the same year. furthermore, would an LMP project hurt their GT/N-GT program?

hehe cool design. i think it would probably look something like their 1998 GTP. i always liked that car... the thing is that Audi said that they will only come back as a factory team with the R9 if there is another factory team competiting against them. Right now, it looks like there will be no factory team in 2005.. 2006, it looks like Audi will be back, as long as Porsche (or someone else) gets in too..

i dont think a LM1 or whatever project would hurt their GT project...look back in the late 90s, they had GT1s, GT2, and GT3 porsches running...nothing will ever get in the way of the GT cars...

Porsche vs Audi (wipes away drool)....

I'll put my money on Porsche rollin' in with a GTS Carrera. The V-10 in the Carrera was orignally supposed to be in the 2000 LMP. Only time will tell, but I'm inclined to be beleive that VAG has scared all factories out of LMP. No one wants to look second rate in the face of Audi. Also, has Porsche ever been able to run up front for the entire 24 hours? The R8 has no problem with that. Can Porsche be that fast AND that reliable. I don't beleive they can, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Pasca, Audi will come back with Joest when someone has the minerals to try to knock them off. I don't know anything for fact, but the popular word is that the R9 exists electronicly. Audi doesn't have to be scared of anything, they are the kings right now. I would bet a factory Porsche couldn't beat a customer Audi. Sorry if that's blasphomus, but I didn't know sportscar racing existed until the 21st century. Porsche is only an ancient legend to me. I hope some Porsche bigshots read that, and I hope it ****es them off.

Porsche has run up front at LeMans for many more hours than Audi and have won many more races, so dont doubt for one minute that they are capable of building a car that can compete with Audi over the full 24 hours. Lets hope we get to see soon!

Also, Porsche now is a richer organisation, financially and technically. I've no doubt that they'd be competitive over the whole distance

Chevyguy...so you're doubting their race pace against a manufacturer they've never been up against in a century they've not raced in (in the top category). Makes sense.

But in some ways I'll give you some latitude. Past success isn't always an indicator of future triumph. BUT, the 956/962 program is legendary. As was the 917, and many other past cars. More recently they've also had the Dauer success, the two wins with the TWR cars, and the '98 GT1 win. I still say they know what they're doing. Audi came from nowhere and figured it out. Porsche can enter the modern era and pick up where they left off. I just hope they choose to run more than just Le Mans. Let's not have a Mercedes Benz CLR effort.

For the record, I'd like to see a roof on it.

The car's lip above the tail lights that follows the line of the wing is reminiscent of the '98 gt1-evo.

Porsche can run up front at le mans and stay there for 24 hours easily. they've done it before year after year and whats stoping them now, they have excellent reliabiliti, past and present with the gt3, THEY ARE BULLET PROOF!

What are the chances of seeing a car powered by a derivitive of the twin-turbo v8 cayenne engine? or is the gt 5.7l v10 the best bet?

(obviously the cayenne engine would have to be seriously modified: con rods, crankshaft, turbos, valves, camshafts maybe even the cylinder block itself, would it be too much work and too much trouble when they've got a 612hp engine right on the doorstep near enough ready to race?)

Recent Porsche works efforts in the GT1 era were always handicapped by the out-dated, and hard to package flat six turbo they used. This is why the V10 used in the Carrera GT was built

I would expect Porsche to return with a closed top, V10 engined car along with at least one Japanease manufactuer.
