The Official List of Marshalling Cool
Ok - bit of a random list type thing .....
Try and keep to a list of the 5 cool items or people that you would recommend you colleagues to support, buy or endorse.... (Ten-Tenths & Yahoo's group honorary members!) Mine..... 1. The British HillClimb Championship. Motorsport without the BS in fantastic locations. 2. Toerags. A bit like a Leatherman Tool but 1/3 of the price and almost as good quality. 3. Rob Wilson. New Zealand GT Driver. Top bloke, great driver. When he does pit lane autograph sessions he makes sure Kids & Marshals are looked after. 4. The MSF - I wouldn't want to Marshal if it didn't exist. 5. St John Ambulance - a group who are as (if not more) undervalued as we are. |

Ingear Magazine. The difference bertween this and others is this only has club racing at all levels and types of motorsport in Britain and has a marshals page as well. They are always looking for articles for this. And they also support the Marshals in the UK and Eire.
So Subscribe today its better than the others. Rich S. |

nothing to do with the fact that they published an article by you Rich?
Actually I have a subscription and I do enjoy it - it's a shame there isn't more on Irish racing in it though. |

1) "old school" circuits (Cadwell, Mallory and Oulton)
2) Julian's Web site for availability, http://www.marshals.org.uk/ with that and a calendar you can organize the whole year. 3) Scanners - more clerks are accepting them. Mine packed up on Sunday at Cadwell and I felt lost without it. 4) 750MC- slick meetings, full grids (mostly) and great organizers and competitors. 5) Rockingham fighting it's way back with a dedicated bunch but always short of marshals for the infield races-come on guys (and gals) it's the British GT's in August, give it a shot. |

1) long beach gp...a must do!...not just the racing but the atmousphere and the fact the other marshals and organisers are so welcoming and treat you really well
2) Spa...sooo cool...well freazing cold actually, guarenteed to rain, camp site built on hardcore but what a circuit! 3) Marshalling at Santa Pod drag meetings....standing between 2 7000hp top fuel cars having your insides being rattled out by the noise and vibration...really really cool! 4) cadwell..wicked little circuit, friendly people 5) historic meetings at oulton park...sun shining(well we can dream), big grids watchin DB4s and camaros sliding out of lodge. |

1/. Snetterton, really great people, great posts and big plans for the future.
2/. HSCC. Wonderful cars and great racing. Memories are made of this. 3/. Post 4a at Brands. You don't get a better view of racing. 4/. Dr Jonathon Palmer. Done so much for Brands and Snetterton and plans to do much more. Thank you JP. 5/. Pick up racing at Rockingham. It's different, it's exciting and it's very competitive. Can't wait to get back there in August. P.S Some choices have already been mentioned. Last edited by White flag man; 18 Jul 2006 at 07:53. |

1: Everyone on your post wins the 750mc raffle
2: You can wear a ridiculous floppy sun hat and not feel silly 3: It's acceptable to eat pork pies at 9am 4: The Clerk tells you your written report was excellent (OK, I made that one up!) 5: Drivers actually know you are a volunteer |

1. The escapism of marshalling and being able to switch off from work issues.
2. Quarry corner at Castle Combe - I love marshalling here and indeed anywhere at the circuit as the new club is doing the job really well. 3. Brands Hatch - my first circuit and my 'spiritual home of marshalling'. 4. The camaraderie of it all: camping, being on the bank etc. 5. Seeing good, close, battles on the track by drivers who aren't stupid but don't hold back. |

1. Marshals' camaraderie, general lunacy and jokes
2. Goodwood Revival 3. Oulton Park (Such a pretty circuit) 4. BTCC drivers getting rowdy 5. Drivers waving back at me. Any, I'm not fussy. I know, I'm a saddo. |

1. Frogg Toggs rain gear.
2. The SCCA Valvoline Runoffs at least once in your life (Heartland Park in Topeka, KS in early October) 3. An seemingly infinite list of marshals that I want to work with again, though we all know marshal numbers are quite finite. 4. Any support series at the Canadian GP - in a light rain. Yes, you work hard but you laugh even harder as none of the drivers can ever become experts at this track 5. Sugar and caffeine, served together |

1. The jelly and icecream club.
2. Wearing fireproof orang baby grows in all weathers with silly hats. 3. The look of excitment in the drivers eyes at the start of a race, frustration at the end and joy in some. 4. The welcome we have at the circuit after a long or shot time apart. 5. A big hot mug of tea or coffee and a full british fryup anytime! |

1- Being at copse or becketts (or about half way round any track for that matter) when the first cars come out to first practice...you can hear them coming and then when they burst into sight and they're already battling you know its going to be a good day. Made even better if its a little misty or you've been away for a while.
2- Breakfast at Jacks Hill Cafe 3- Camping at circuits and wandering round when all is quiet. 4- Gonna pinch this one from Terri...Going to a new circuit and always finding a familar face. 5- The clubs that look after you 750MC, MGCC, Peterborough Motorclub, etc. |

As someone who made the switch from spectating this year, these are my "why didn't I do this years ago?" selection:
1. Finding friends you never knew you had 2. Seeing circuits from a completely different perspective 3. Winning a prize in a raffle you didn't realise you'd entered 4. Realising driver's aren't waving to the crowd 5. Knowing WTF's going on when there's a pause in proceedings |

1. Being able to stand on the inside at Shell as some big hairy lairy sportscars come through Island.
2. Not been would, but dearly love to go (must save those pennies) - the Tour Of Mull. 3. The Roger Albert Clark Rally - MK1 & MK2 escorts, in the dark, in Kielder - OOH. 4. Superkarts with all 4 wheels of the deck going over the top of the Mountain. 5. Getting a car shifted out the way, before the leaders arrive on the next lap - as the master card advert says - "priceless" |

Another two;
1. Listening to the count down for the first competitor going into a rally stage over the radio when you are deep in the forest. Then being able to hear it comming for about 5 minutes before it eventually blasts by. 2. Sitting in Dyfi, on a October morning that was crystal clear and sunny (yes the sun does shine in Wales) and watching Andy Burton charge up hill from Corris for about 2 miles and then dissapear over the tops. One of the moments that makes you remember leaving home at stupid 0'clock and sleeping in the car is not such a daft idea after all. |
