Formula Renault (spelt right): Silverstone Thread
Testing is on Friday. The day after the top three (prior to Thruxton) have all been guests of Renault's F1 team in testing at Silverstone. Not a bad prize at all for Messrs Conway, Lloyd and Sisley. That should make them get up out of bed on a Friday morning! Just so long as they don't think they can match Alonso's traces through Priory!
I think this is going to be such a close weekend ... yet again. Hamilton to win, a) just because it would be great to have five different winners from the first five rounds and b) I just think he will do it. Rossiter I think will be second and Lloyd will beat Conway to third (there is no way he can allow Conway to beat him twice - full marks to him for salvaging fifth at Thruxton while struggling for straightline speed). As pointed out elsewhere, be nice to see a few of the others get in among the leaders, as Soderberg and Spencer did at Thruxton. Step forward Messrs Scott, Glew, Jiminez and Mlle Stoddart ... |

You are an really! 1.) Hamilton 2.) Conway 3.) Lloyd Conway has to beat Lloyd to maintain his lead and will beat Rossiter. Hamilton will win just beacause it is his turn! Should be good......I'll be there all 3 days! |

and there's a place for it, which isn't here.
3 days? you girl. i'm going to f1 testing and the weekend racing, making it 6 days in total. ha i think hamilton's going to do it too. there's only so long you can pedal the myth that consistency is better than a couple of wins here and there. the rest of the field is anyone's guess, it's whoever stays out of trouble. i reckon it's going to be an extremely boring race though, because the track's too wide and everyone's going to stay out of trouble. so i predict the top 6 will be the same as the top 6 in qualifying... |

1. Hamilton
2. Lloyd 3. Sisley 4. Rossiter 5. Conway Anyone want to be radical and NOT think Lewis will win? That'd be fun |

Can anybody help me with the history of Conway at Comtec last year. Why did he perform seemingly not so good in FF 2002 and miss the Festival and then is one of the top dogs in Renault in 2003? Any views?

Conway was with Van Diemen last year (now Comtec). I don't know all the facts but I believe most of the focus with VD last year was getting Wesley to win the championship. I believe that all the other drivers may have lost out because of this. Conway did finish 4th though which was not all bad. It made sense to miss the festival. I understand he spent his time/budget testing with Fortec. He also did the Fran-Am American series which gave him more time in the car. He is also the British Karting Champion don't forget (Formula A I think) so has a good pedigree. Maybe now he is in a good team he is showing his true colours. He is clearly a mature, quick and consistant driver. Also, look at Alex Lloyd! Didn't have a great time in FF but maybe slicks and wings suit the ex-karters more. If you dig around, you will probably find a few drivers like this. p.s. not really a girl....that was an attaempt at humour! SORRY! |

Okay thanks for that.
Yes I think you are right - there maybe a tendancy for the long time karters to over drive a Formula Ford with all the weight at the back. Smoothness and patience is rewarded. Do you know in what way a lack of support last year from Comtec manifested itself for Conway. MT |

Can't really help you with this. I think Comtec did a good job as they had 3 in the top 4 at the end of the season. The way I understand it, there was some dis-harmony in the VD camp and all attention was on Westley and his car/set-up/requests. This did not suit all the drivers and I believe attention to detail was not the same for all cars. Stuart Hall and Mike Conway had several mechanical failures and set-up issues. Westley did not seem to have these problems. Jonny Apex - yes you are right, a FFord only has mechanical grip whereas a FRenault has wider slicks and obviously the wings give downforce. A FR works more like a kart in that respect. |
