Speed should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Is Montoya the record man in this category ?

No wins with more Pole Positions in a season ?

I dont need to go search the archives. It obviously is, and if he doesnt win a race this year, it is a record that will never be broken (unless by himself) in my opinion.

Not the sort of record I guess to be proud of.

Yes obviously this is some sort of a 'record' by JPM. I am amazed of the similarities between JPM and Senna. I remember Senna doing exactly the same in his early years in F1 i.e. giving lots of poles but not winning races.

I am a bit surprised that Michael wasnt able to dominate pole positions this year. With a car like F2002 he should've gotten much closer to Senna's record of 65 poles.

Cant believe the run of luck the man is having. To get a record like that would be a really kick in the b@lls.

Speed, are you a mind reader?

The same thing struck me - it probably is a record, though I haven't checked. Does anyone know what the previous "record" in this respect is?

Well, I'm not sure about this being a good topic but it does raise the subject of "best losers".

Whilst I don't have the figures I think Warwick holds the record for the most starts and the least points (surprisingly beating De Crasheris to this record).

Then we have Chris Amon. The man who, due to seriously ill luck, failed to win even one GP, yet scored lots of points.

Of course some people might see this a sflame bait so I'll say that JPM still has a few years to go before he creates any records (ggod or bad) but he's certainly looking like another De Cesaris in the making albeit he doesn't actually trash his cars.

Alesi had 2 poles in his entire career. Senna's "best" record was in 86: 8 poles - 2 wins. (by the way: first pole = first win - 1985 Estoril)

Red...im amazed that Alesi only ever had 2 poles !.......i would have said he had many more than that . Funny how the memory fades about these things as time moves on.....Were those 2 poles both at Monza ?.....Benneton 97 and Ferrari 95 ?

97 is correct, but it was 94, not 95 when he was on pole in the Ferrari. Both at Monza.

OK, I've checked it!

Previous record is held by Rene Arnoux, who in 1981 set four poles without winning any races. So, definitely, if Juan Pablo doesn't win any of the remaining two races, he will take that not-so-attractive record comfortably (though it is better to set poles and not win races than to not set poles and not win races).

You only need one year to get this kind of records.

"More poles and No Win season"
It's an unlucky record, but he has it, so far (I said "so far", because I want him to get a GP win before it's over...)

This thread is definitely not a flame bait when you consider that the thread starter is a fan of Montoya. Just a peculiar statistic, that's all.

If any driver will beat sennas record of 65 poles it will be montoya. At monza he draged that williams around the track to score the fastest lap in f1 history. As soon as this guy gets a car that he can use his talent to 100% we will see him crowned WC so until then he has got 11 poles in the bag and counting.

OK.

The only car that's good enough at the moment for winning races and the championship, is the Ferrari. The Williams is good enough for setting pole...

You could say that it's worse than that, JPM "only" has 10 poles not 11!
