'Fraid cannot do Daytona as business trip is this week to Florida.

What is the date for Sebring ?? I might need to arrange another "business" trip PDQ.

Never been to Sebring, how far from Tampa, FL (hours / miles) can you camp (tent)onsite or is it Winnies only. Can you get ticket on the door ?

SL: I am not sure exactly how far it is from Tampa but it is probably around 3 hrs. There IS tent camping at the track! The Sebring 12 hours is the best sports car race in this country, (better than Daytona because the ALMS has much better cars!) Last year they were still selling tickets on site, but just in case you should try there web site I am not sure of the address but you can get it from http://www.seventhgear.com go to links, tracks, and then Sebring! Get a paddock pass so you can see all of the cars up close it is just awesome, I will be working for a guy who runs a coffee stand in the paddock, (when I am not spectating!) If you show up (which I highly recommend every road racing fan to do at least once in his/her life) You should stop by and say hi, My name is David.

Jared should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
As I live close to both races (it never ceases to amaze me that two of the three biggest sports car races in the world are held in Florida), I've always wanted to go, and sit the entire 24 hours in the grandstands, come hell or high water (or freezing cold temperatures). However, this year the entire race will be live on Speedvision, so I'm staying home and watching it on the tele. Good luck. Don't freeze during the night. We call it the "Sunshine State" but it does get pretty cold in January/February.

Thanks for info on Sebring - I asked in Tampa and it is about a 2hr drive out of rush hour.

What have you guys been doing to the Florida weather !!!! Yesterday (Saturday) was freezing.

"Been in Fla nearly...

..30 years and have been to both many times. Yeah, it's neat to sit in grandstand at Daytona through the nite (along with touring the infield section, access in and out thru the tunnel) but it is cold as h*ll when the sun goes down. Same at Sebring on many occasions so i wouldn't be so sure that "it will be nice". Great fun, both, but be prepared to bundle up. I'm gonna catch the start and a few hours of the Rolex than retreat to the comfort of home (FtL area0 for the remainder on SPDVSN. If you haven't been, you MUST experience it at least once in its entirety to truly appreciate how gruelling it is. After freezing thru the nite....finally the sun rises over the bacstretch and the new day begins and you still have hours to go...(tho' not as many as in the past when the start was at 3, not 1). Heck, I'm almost talkin' myself into stickin' it out one more time....my aging body tells me otherwise, however.

Champ...

I have nothing against it. re-read my post. I've been so many times (thank goodness I caught some of the best, not just GARRA) that at this point in my life (okay, my body's) I'm glad spdvsn has picked it up so I can "be" there without having to be there for its entirety. I will drive the 240 miles for the prerace, start and some, but I can catch the rest at home. To everyone who can hang, GOD BLESS!! I wish I could do it with you. Been there, done that, and am weighing the pros and cons. ENJOY !!!...as I have on many an occasion. (anyone remember Bell trying to get the 962 to run in '85 with 1/2 hour to go...or the "GAS" crisis (watered down) red flag in '76?) Yeah, I've been there....and will be again....just farther and fewer between....

Even better, I'm now going to be in the pits with the Genesis Racing Team.

They'll be running an E36 BMW M3 and an E46 M3, with Bill Auberlen as one of the drivers. Should be a good time.

Maybe I'll take my NOMEX with me and hop in one of the cars before they notice during one of the pit stops!!

Heck, a 420hp, 2400 pound M3 can't be THAT much different than my dad's 280hp, 2800 pound M3!
