Heidfeld not going to McLaren could be a good thing...
...the way I see it is: if Heidfeld did go there to replace Coulthard, he might find himself in the same position Coulthard was in when he and Hakkinen were at McLaren, e.g. Hakkinen was the undisputed No.1, and don't forget that both Hakkinen and Raikkonen are Finnish, which could mean favourism of Raikkonen over whatever team mate he has at McLaren. After all, he is just like Hakkinen.
So I think Heidfeld should stay at Sauber for 2003, and if Toyota do well and a free race seat is available there, he should take the Toyota offer. Toyota are on the way up, and it could be a good long term source of sucess for Heidfeld. Hopefully, this is the way it will turn out. |

Yoong,
Heidfeld isn't going to McLaren. It's already been confirmed. So this scenario may never play out if Nick bites the bullet and decides to go somewhere else when his contract finishes. |

YM, my apologies but i fail to see how a driver not going to a team like McLaren and staying at Sauber can be good for Heidfeld. Ron's relationship with Mika was very special, but it wasn't just because he was a Finn, and i don't see that transfering to Kimi just because he's a Finn also.

Mika, the undisputed number 1. I dispute this! I don't think this was the case. DC and Mika had equal equipment and equal opportunities. Mika was more a number one because he was generally quicker.
That is not to say Ron and Mika didn't have a very close friendship. Heidfeld would do well at McClaren as long as he drove well. He could also be the "no.1" if he drove quicker than his team mate there. I think that it would be a great opportunity for Heidfeld to go to McClaren, but they seem quite content with there current drivers. So, I think that the McClaren drive, might be closed to him for a few years. However, he is young and I agree if a chance of a drive for Toyota comes up then it would be a good move. Having said that, I think that he will probably stay at Sauber. Which is serving him well, for now. |
