More rumours - Driver changes for '03
From www.worldrally.news.com
1) Carlos Sainz could drive for Hyundai next year if he fails to piece together a deal with Ford.“I am talking with them,” Sainz replied when asked if he could join Hyundai. “If Ford is not giving anything, I don’t have any option. You can say nothing till everything is done.” 2)Didier Auriol could return to the WRC, driving for Skoda. “It’s true that I’m in discussions. We’re well advanced, but there’s nothing signed. I’m interested in coming back. The passion is still there, but it has to be with good people,” Auriol said. It would be good to see Auriol back, although I'd prefer Carlos to stay with Ford |

Better he should drive for Hyundai than not have a job at all, but Ford would be Nutz to get rid of him! He makes a great foil for Martin now that McCrash has gone to bounce Citroens.

im with Liz, why would Ford want to drop him? he's still fast, not the bset in the world anymore, but he's still capable of winning rallys, and he should have a good car to do it in!

But he said he'd take a pay cut.

Quote from Malcolm Wilson re; Carlos Sainz situation.
"We're still talking about the budgets within the team and until we know what we've got there would be no point talking," Wilson said. "We know what Carlos wants and we absolutely want him to stay, but budgets are budgets." |

RTL5 just mentioned in its programme Rally Report that Nicky Grist might stay at Ford, he will take the co-driver seat alongside François Duval.
Other news was indeed Carlos Sainz to Hyundai (next to Freddy Loix) and Auriol to Skoda. |

Probably wouldn't be a bad move for Ford to just concentrate on development with some young drivers. As JAG said, they don't have much hope of matching Peugeot and Citroen next year, so why not plan for the future.
