Is this Skaifes worst year????

Skaife currently sits in 17th with the mid fielders. The worst result I remember for him in the modern era, was 12th in 2004 when Marcos wiped the floor with him. Does anyone remember a worse result????

Your fascination with Mark Skaife isn't healthy.

Maybe Billy can ask the mods to change his moniker to Schadenfreude.

1997 was worse. Much worse. He only got to race half of the ATCC because the team had no budget. Nothing could be as bad as having to go to races as a spectator while the car sits idle in the workshop.

Yeah, you could be right Falc. Still, this has been pretty bad, as billy points out. Only 9 'Top Ten' shootouts, 4 Pole Positions, 8 race wins (or is it only 7?), a 3rd, a couple of 5ths and a 6th, and a whole pile of DNFs.

I'd say definitely his worst year since '97.

I'm a BIG Skaife fan I'll admit that, have been since 1998 in his first proper season with HRT.

Based on the modern era (ie not counting 1997 where he couldn't compete all the time), I would have to say 2004 would be his worst year. Yes he's 17th in the Championship now, however there's still three rounds to go. He's won more races than anyone else and there's been a few "the one that got away" and "what could've been". He's also won a round this year (Pukekohe) and I'm positive he didn't win a round in 2004.

97 - that was they year after Gibson Motorsport had the sega saturn sponsorship, and they only did a few rounds, intitally with a plain white commodore with a yellow rear wing (basically the prvious years colours minus the sega signage) and then holden jumped on for a couple of rounds after they announced he'd join Brocky at HRT for the enduros, so the car ran 'holden network Q' on a black/red 'tear' up the side of the car. is that the year i think of?

the difference between this year and 2004 is that he has had more Dnf's

he had only one podium to the same point in 2004. but he had a couple of race wins.

he was on the front row 5 times in a row in 2006 and was rarely not in the shoot out

they had a few more enduro rounds in 2004 ( i think the sprint rounds must help him) .

i would guess that he drove poorer in 2004 but he has a car that is not up to scratch this year

Its been an up & down year for Mark, but i'd prefer this year to 2004 anyday. 2004 was without doubt, the worst year to be a HRT fan, right from Adelaide the car showed no pace whatsoever.

It was the first season when the HMS Engine was used all year, and whilst you can't blame just that, it did make the car balance different to what they were used to setting up for.

Personally, i'd rather see flashes of brilliance like we've seen this year, where the car has at least shown some good pace, then watch a motor car struggle all year long. That year the cars just looked flat, they didn't corner or show any attitude, they just looked..... well.... slow... and thats what they were.

Gibson Motorsport started the 96 season with a brand new unsponsored white VR Commodore. It was damaged at the opening round at Eastern Creek and for round 2 Skaife drove his 95 car in Winfield colours less signwriting.

After a few rounds the Sega sponsorship appeared and for the 96 enduros the Network Q sponsorship, the team fielding 2 cars at Bathurst.

Started the 97 season in the white, red and black Network Q / Sega livery with Cooopers & Lybrand Sponsorship for the 1st few races and the V8 Bathurst 1000 at Eastern Creek. Only competed in 5 of the 10 championship rounds, the last being at Mallala.

Gibson Motorsport then ran the car for Darren Hossack and Steve Ellery in the 97 enduros with Wynns sponsorship.

As many have said, 2004 was far worse. At least this year both Mark and the car have been blindingly quick, they've just had very poor reliability, and also luck just hasn't gone their way. It can be frustrating, but that's OK, life goes that way sometimes.

Not to worry billy, I'm sure Skaifey will be winning again with the VE next year, and you can cheer him on all the way!

I think the worst year skaifey had was where he was running his own team sponsored by sega.that was really a crappy year for him.

All drivers have bad years at some stage.

Look at poor Lowndes for his first few years at Ford.

It's all swings and roundabouts, but at the end of your career when people look back, they tend to look at the winning you did rather than the losing, and Skaife's record looks ok in that regard.

The comprtition is so tough now, a couple of dnf's will totally ruin your year, especially if the drivers who just keep coming 10th-15th just finish every race.

Hopefully next year the points will reward those who actually have some strong results a bit better.

In any case though, Skaife for one reason or another has had a shocker.
