oily oaf should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Good ole cars

I was watching an old movie circa 1973 the other night with Jeff Bridges called "The Last American Hero". Basically the story of a young country boy climbing the ladder to stock car stardom thru dirt track to Nascar and very good it was too. My question is, what make and model were those big ole sedans that were hacking round the track in the Nascar sequencies. Maybe some of our more "ahem" mature contributors can satisfy my curiosity. I know I can rely on you guys as you've never failed me yet in my quest for the inane and totally useless facts of motorsport.

From http://www.sd455.com/movielastah.htm: "The best parts of the film show Bridges, er Junior Jackson, driving the #12 Coca-Cola sponsored 1971 Monte Carlo NASCAR stocker that Bobby Allison drove in real life (I think the real Junior Johnson owned this car, didn't he?). In the big finale, Jackson races the Monte at Martinsville against his on-and-off the track nemesis who is driving a blue and red #43 Plymouth sponsored by STP. (Gee, I've seen that car before, I just can't remember who drove it in real-life....Ahem!) Don't miss glimse's of the Wood Brothers #21 Merk Cyclone, and Roger Penske's red-white-blue Matador....look quick!"

Well, to be honest, I'm not so old NASCAR fan myself, back when Chevys were Luminas and Ford drivers drove Thunderbirds. But thanks to some historic NASCAR books, US imports, which surprisingly are imported to this rally country, I'm learning fast.
