Kenny Brack aiming towards Richmond for his comeback
The following is translated from an article in today's Aftonbladet (a Swedish newspaper);
Quote:
Should be interesting to hear how he feels after the test in June. |

My guess is that it will just be Bracka dn Rice running for the rest of the season, unless some extra sponsorship come son board for Meira. In any case it'd be great to have Kenny back, his recovery has been astounding so far.

I would wait to see if Kenny " hears the voice " during his test. DeFerran heard it last year and Buhl heard it at Motegi this year.
My guess is that Rice and Meira will be named as the full time drivers for Rahal-Letterman before Texas. |

Swedish newspapers are reporting today that Kenny Brack tested at Richmond this past weekend, doing around 150 laps. His best lap was one tenth off the Richmond lap record.
Kenny himself says it felt good and he wasn't thinking about his Texas crash at all during the test. He also wants to make clear this was just a first test to 'check things out', and while the test was nothing but positive, no decision about a comeback has been made yet. He also wants to point out that while he has done a lot of gym training and is in great shape, he feels he's not in proper "race shape" just yet. |

I think he was using the tests as motivation to help his recovery, but I don't expect he'll decide to race again.

I expect he'll race again, but if it's in OW I'll be somewhat surprised.

One tenth of a second off the lap record, and he's not in race shape? Imagine what he'll do when he is.
Kenny will be back. |

1/10th off the lap record? In a 3.0 liter engine? Who was doing the timing? Bobby? <G>

I tend to agree with Team Owner here. Testing is one thing but when you add all those other cars to the formerly empty track - well the volume on "the voice" may just get turned up a notch or two.
I am hoping Kenny hears "the voice" and retires from open wheel. I am sure a nice career in ALMS or something like Herbert, Lehto, Johannson (sic) et al have done (and well, I should add) awaits him. He has nothing he needs to prove imho. Last edited by JohnSSC; 9 Jun 2004 at 01:52. |

I hope Brack makes a full recovery, but one has to wonder if he'll ever be the same or if it might be better for him to retire or go to a non-OW series as others have suggested.

I would like to pose a question.
WHY ???? I mean yes we all know how terrible Kenny's crash was but everyone is saying he should quit , give up on his openwheel dream and go race sportscars or something ? But seriously Why should he if he still has the love for openwheelers or the big ovals ? He is without a doubt a very talented driver , and yes it maybe the case that the crash has affected him in some way that he doesnt feel up to running these cars and tracks anymore , but in every article or interview he is saying he wants to come back , so why are we not supporting him ? yes the chances are he could come back and the same could happen again with much worse results , but the same could happen to driver X this weekend at Texas god forbid , but we dont go telling them or suggesting to them that maybe a nice sportscar or touring car ride would be more their gig. its just something that crossed my mind thats all. Maybe Kenny will come back even better than before , stronger and tougher and determined to make the most of it , you never know until he gets out there in traffic. yes we wonder if he will be able to "cut the mustard" but the decision is totally his and he wont know unless he tries , it maybe that he comes back does one race and then says "maybe this wasnt a good idea" but at the same time maybe he comes back and says "Im Loving it and im only going to get stronger" who knows time will tell but I just dunno why all the negativity about his return is happening. Just a few thoughts thats all CHEERS Marcus |
