Very sad news
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the tragic Death of a young member of our Oulton Park marshal team.
Young Scott Ollier passed away recently, he was a valued member and often seen in the paddock area. He displayed the enthusiasm and commitment that would have been a credit to anyone who wore the the orange overalls and I`m sure he would have become a highly respected marshal in the years to come. Further information (i.e. flowers or donations etc) will be released as it becomes known. To alleviate further grief to the family, meassege of condolence may be channelled through me via PM. All his fellow Marshal`s of which he was very much a liked will miss him. Goodbye You will be sadly missed. Last edited by sx200s14a; 29 Oct 2004 at 23:58. |

Although I am a 'newbie' Scott was the very first person I worked with when I started marshaling this year. His passion for the sport and his role within it was apparent and I, like I'm sure many others will be, am saddened by this news. PM for the family on its way Terry |

I found out on thursday and i still can't believe what has happened. I've marshalled with Scott in the assembly area several times and i i know that he really didn't deserve what happened to him. i know he will be greatly missed by anyone who has met him, he was such a great guy
RIP Scott |

All the members of the Oulton Park paddock/assembly team (many of whom, of course, are a similar age to Scott) have been deeply shocked and saddened by this news. He was a great enthusiast for racing (especially F1) and really enjoyed his marshalling. Thanks to Tony for starting this thread, we will keep everyone informed. The funeral will also be attended by his friends from college and the cadets...
In memory of Scott - great guy, good friend, such a loss to marshalling as he was so looking forward to working in the pits, on the bank etc - he will be very sadly missed. |

I think I'm right in saying that Scott's last meeting of the season was for me and the JCC at Mallory.
Like the above posts, I am very saddened to hear about this. I didn't know Scott but that is irrelevant and I offer condolances from the Jaguar Car Club and me personally to his family, friends and fellow marshals. |

I can't believe something like this could happen to someone so young. I didn't know Scott, but i hope that his family and friends can take comfort from the Marshalling community. The next meeting at Oulton will be a very sad one indeed...

I heard of Scott's tragic death on Thursday afternoon to say I was shocked and saddened would be an understatement. Scott often came into the pits to help grid the cars from the garages, he will be sadly missed. Tony, from the Oulton Pit marshals please pass on our heartfelt condolences. Perhaps we should think of naming a race meeting after him. Scott R.I.P.

Just to add to my above post, i know a plaque could be quite expensive but it might be possible to organise a fund - raising event, or even see if people would give donations because it would be special to have something to remember him by.

A very sad, tragic and - from what I have been told - needless loss perpetrated by some modern day lowlife.
I don't recall Scott, but I know I will have spoken to him on my way into the Assembly Area. He was one of a very pleasant bunch of young marshals in 2004 and my condolences go out to his family and marshalling colleagues. I am sure all of my NW FF1600 drivers and teams would echo my sentiments. RIP Scott |

This is very sad news and my sincerest sympathies to his family and friends.
Ten-tenths would be honoured to contribute an amount towards a plaque or some form of memorial. Please PM me when you have decided what you want to do and we'll do our best to make a suitable contribution. |

I guess Scott was a BMMC North Region member!
Therefore, might it be an idea to approach Mike Cadwallader (North Chairman) with a view to an annual award to "Junior" marshals in the region in memory of Scott? The "Ollier" award would then be a permanent reminder of Scott for marshals. Obviously Scott's family would be consulted from the start. |

If Sott was the young man with the clipboard directing the drivers to their assembly places at Oulton then our paths have crossed many times. Either way for a young life to be lost is a tragedy making us even more aware of our own mortality. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
Our local quiz league runs a monthly mini quiz in the name of a young man who was a quizzer and died tragically young. It perpetuates his name and is a continuing tribute to his memory, so I am all in favour of Scott having an award of some kind made in his name. |

The funeral service for Scott Ollier took place yesterday at St Joseph's RC Church, Winsford, Cheshire, at the church where Scott was baptised, and he was buried at Weaver Chapel nearby.
The congregation who attended to celebrate his life and popularity probably numbered over 250 people, the great majority being young men and women of his own age - friends from school. college and the community - as well as his family, friends and neighbours. St Joseph's was packed to the doors - standing-room only - long before the service was due to start. The motorsport fraternity was represented by Mike Cadwallader, chairman of BMMC NW, Tom Dooley, chairman of BRSCC NW, and David Williams, Clerk & former Chief Pit Marshal at Oulton Park. We also represented Margaret Simpson, Chief Marshal for BARC NW, plus Ray Sumner, Alistair Garrett, Graham Lindley, Jan Gower and Kirsty Hulme plus many more) who were unfortunately unable to attend. The Oulton Park paddock/assembly team, in which Scott had participated with such enthusiasm, was represented by Mick Sharp and Martin Borland, Dave Steel, Scott Pickering, and Katie White. Tony Glover from the Oulton pit crew, who initiated this thread in Scott's memory, also attended, and has kindly offered to deliver to Scott's family a printout of all the messages of support and sympathy posted via the Marshals' Forum of Ten-Tenths. If, as a marshal or competitor, you knew our Scott, please keep posting... We should mention that among the floral tributes was a huge Ferrari prancing-horse shield (from Scott's family, in honour of the team he loved most) and a giant chequered flag from the British Motorsport Marshals' Club (organised by Dave Williams - thanks Dave, it was a brilliant idea, and beautifully made). In case you hadn't noticed, well over 2000 - yes, two thousand - people have visited this particular segment of 10/10ths in the last two weeks, which can only demonstrate the community spirit amongst marshals, both in the UK and from all the site's contributors from overseas. Scott's dad was pleased to see so many representatives of the marshals at the service - he spent quite some time reminiscing with us all at the reception - and we will all look forward to seeing him again at Oulton Park next season and in future years... Various suggestions have been made regarding ways of perpetuation Scott's memory within the sport that he loved so much - watch this space... FOR SCOTT, FROM ALL HIS FRIENDS - The chequered flag may have fallen too soon, but your lap of honour will last a long time. MB. |
