Owen Kelly @ QR
I couldnt help but be impressed with the drives put in by Owen kelly in the 2nd & 3rd Konica races at QR. His drive through the field in the 2nd race was great to watch & in the 3rd race, he virtually had that race on a string, even allowing for the 4 or so safety car re-starts.
His DJR car also did the business in terms of power & the way it handled...sort of makes you wonder whats going on in the main game. Kelly certainly appears to be a talented steerer & I hope he can make it into one of the better level 1 teams shortly. Cheers |

Looks to be a fantastic final round showdown between Youlden, Jones and Kelly at Mallala

So who's the tip?
In terms of outright speed without throwing new bits at it after EVERY session, I would say Andy Jones should be the quickest.... but will he be the luckiest? |

If luck has anything to do with it Jones and Kelly are out already. Snapping drive shafts on the line and boiling coolant before the light turns green is the luckiest those two seem to get!
I was looking at the points the other day and I believe anyone of the top 8 can still actually win it! I think that Mr Jones will win it though. Youlden won't be fast enough and the DJR thing won't make it through all the races.......... |

It must be hard for drivers like Owen Kelly, knowing no matter how good they are there is not much chance of moving up to the top class. By the time one of the current drivers retires there will some more young hotshot or S.O.R.F's to take the vacant spots.

And here is me thinking Owen Kelly also has SORF-like tendencies... the stories all those years ago of young Owen hotlapping the Macca's drive thru in father Chas' F40 Ferrari?
Please dont kid ourselves.... |

I know Chas is not short but apparently not willing to bankroll Owen's career.

Looks like there's going to be a couple of disappointed drivers if Kelly is going to fit in there. That doesn't include another well credentialed driver or two that are rumoured to be in the running for those seats.

Have heard that the DJR Konica drivers do get paid, if only a limited amount. One of them anyway!

Owens dad may be well off but I think that he made Owen go and work at some trucking company for quite a while and hasn't handed it to him on a platter.
You can't help it if you are well off and your son has an interest in racing as do you but you can make sure that he earns his place and dosn't just turn up and drive. I seem to recall him working at Fawkners also and preping his Konica car there too. |
