Black flags in endurance racing...
Following yesterday's black flag incidents for Massa and Fisichella in the GP, an interesting point was raised, concerning black flags in long distance races.
If a black flag is shown at say, Le Mans, is that black flag for the car, or would it be for the driver because it is not the fault of the entire team? Or would it depend on what the flag was for? |

The Black Flag is normally to bring the driver into the pits as the Officials / Marshalls what to talk about an infraction THAT DRIVER did.
But passing a RED light or RED flag is enough for disqualification of that team from the event. PERIOD, No discussion. |

FIA is differnt as well Red Flad is the end of that session. On this side of the pond we use the waving black flag & double yellow flags for what you have discribed above. The Red Flag is to IMMIDATELY check your mirrors, pull over to the side of the track ( right side preffered) in view of the next flag ( marshals ) stand and STOP. Wait for further instructions. In most cases this is for a severl accident which no other cars can pass. |
