Do you think we'll hear anything like this if team radio is broadcast on TV in 2003?
I wasn't sure if drivers could ask a team for team orders until I heard these files. These are recording of Jordan team radio in the closing stages of Spa 98. And I wouldn't be surprised if the team radio of Ferrari wasn't like this at Austria 2001 and 2002:
File 1: THE NO.1 ASKS FOR TEAM ORDERS http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homep...on/DH98131.wav File 2: THE NO.2 SURRENDERS RELUCTANTLY TO THE TEAM ORDER http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homep...on/RS98131.wav Don't be surprised if you hear conversations like these if Bernie's plan to broadcast team radio does come into force next year. Maybe not as blatant though. Or maybe they'll use morse code instead |

Man that was annoying. Can you imagine racing with that chatter?
Radio guy: Hello? Acknowledge. You there? Hello? Acknowledge. You there? Blah blah blah. Driver: Shut the **** up!! |

That's when you yank the plug out of the dashboard!

Well I must admit, be it Ralf, Rubins or anyone else, a call like that (especially going for your 1st win) would be hard to take.
But I'm afraid thats life. I don't support the team-order ban but I agree fiasco's like Austria need to end. However asking a driver in the above situation, when the team can almost guarantee not only it's 1st ever win, but a 1-2, is justified. Why should a team, spending millions of dollars, and having to justify every decision to the bill paying sponsors, not have the right to ask it's second driver (on the road) to hold in beyond me. OT, I think with the knowledge of us listening in they will be very careful. |
