Bad News from the Dakar

Bad New from The Dakar I'm afraid

Press release: Saturday January the 11th 2003, 17h15
It is with great sadness that the organisers of the Dakar announce the death of Bruno Cauvy, co-driver of car number 280. The organisers and the whole Dakar family express their sincerest condoleances to his family and friends.

The accident occured at km 270 of the special from Zilla and Sirar in Lybia. The medical staff arrived 27 minutes after the organisers were informed to find the car upside down on the track and were only able to pronounce Bruno Cauvy dead at the scene of the accident.

Driver Daniel Nebot is in a good state of health.

Condolances to all involved

Always very sad when this type of thing happens. The Dakar and rally raids in general are probably the most dangerous type of motorsport because of the pure length of the event, nevertheless, no-one wants or expects the bad news like we've had over the past few days.

Here's hoping for a clean run to the end of the rally.

Condolences to friends and family of Bruno.

Terrible news. And what a shock for the poor driver! My prayers are with all involved and concerned.

Motor racing is dangerous.

Shinozuka almost died in that similiar accident and I hope the organizers can talk to the participants about safety.

Nah... Out of hundreds of participants driving/riding as hard as they can for 12 hours a day, for 3 weeks, we're still talking a very good level of safety.

It is amazing that more people are not seriously injured or killed, at that! Especially the bikers. But it is very sad when it happens and I'm glad it is rare.

Heard about that yesterday. It is always sad when something like that happens. As Liz said, it must have been a terrible shock for the driver.

My condolences to everyone personally affected, family, friends and team colleagues.

Big shame, first international motor racing fatality of 2003

Hopefully the last, always terrible to learn about the death of a driver
