There seems to be some contention about whether on not Senor Montoya will be driving a BMW-Williams or a Toyota-Lola next year. According to the contract, Ganassi still has the option to turn down any offer by Williams for the Colombian's service and the contract does not expeire till the end of 2001.
"I've seen Patrick Head quoted that Juan will be racing there next year," said Ganassi. "The last time I looked this team wasn't called Patrick Head Racing. It's Ganassi Racing, and Juan is staying put."
Words from the horses mouth so to speak... "I'm going to be here," in CART said Montoya. "Stop asking the question."
Reports suggest that Williams is offering US$5 million to purchase Juan from his contract and sign over Bruno Junqueira as a replacement. Now maybe this is a ploy by Ganassi to up the ante on Montoya, but he is known as a very tempermental and hard-headed guy when it comes to someone else dictating terms. He might hang on to Montoya just to aggravate the F1 fraternity.
