No, i just asked for the hell of it...
If it's a timing error surely it would have been addressed by now ? |

I think at the begining of each new session, the lap times are reset to 0:00.000. That is why 20th is slower than 21st.

sorry the emoticon made me think you were using sarcasim. as mentioned, Qualifying is dived into 3 sessions, after session one the bottom 11 drivers were elimanated their times stood as they were. the top 20 then had there times reset to zero and they qualified for 15 minutes. they were then reduced to ten and times reset for zero. the timing gives the time they qualified in for the session they were in. In theory the pole sitter could finish with a time slower than last place (it might rain during the final session for instance) if you get through to the final 20 you stay in the 20, if you get through to the ten you stay in the ten |

I didn't see Holdsworth go out once in the second session (Canto was in it but I thought Lee was eliminated in Q1). And then, lo and behold, Holdsworth's name is in the top 10 after Q2 is finished, so he goes out for session 3! Maybe he went out and did one lap early in Q2, but I certainly didn't see it. Can anyone verify that he actually went out at all? |

The outcome is great... the communication of who went where and lost and stuff is a bit wonky.
How hard can this stuff be? |

It is exactly the same as the F1 system - and is pretty simple.
Come on people! Take an interest in general motorsport and you can learn things. |

The only problem I found with the system was at the track you can't tell who's done what time and who is in what position. The PA system is pretty crap so they need some sort of visual indication on the big screens as to position. I'm assuming that Channel seven will have this when they televise qual

Yes Channel 7 had that Trev, but it still wasn't communicated well by them. I think they were sweeping out cobwebs and getting their head around how to describe what was happening at Adelaide qualifying. Matthew White wasn't really paying attention, though I think something was a bit chaotic in the commentary booth at that stage. Hopefully they'll do a better job when it goes on TV.

I was at the track and had no problems understanding what was happening. I use a portable FM radio and headset ( not ear plugs) and am able to hear the full commentary even when the V8s roar past. No commentary will ever be perfect, especially when Murray Walker is talking, But with a little knowledge about procedures and paying attention it is easy to keep track

Holdsworth qualified in the top ten in the second qualifyer. He only did a few relatively slow laps in the final top 10 (third) qualifying session as he had trouble with the car sticking in gear. Consequently he was unable to have a go and qualified at the bottom of that session, which put him tenth regardless of his time in any other session session, which by the way would have put him well above ten on the grid.
