The source of the story being an undisclosed Indonesian one, I think we should wait and hear the story from A1GP themselves before predicting the downfall of the series. Even if the Sheikh has stepped down I dont see it stopping A1GP from growing and being succesfull.

The sheikh is indeed not longer involved in A1GP.

There is nothing new here. The Sheik has only had a figurehead role for a number of months.
A shame if he is completely out of it as I dreamed up the concept in the first place, and no matter what happens to A1 in the future I hope he is always recognised for that fact. |

I hope this dosent have a negative impact on the series, I would say it has the ability, in time, of becoming a major international sporting event. It has the abilty to bring motorsport into the limelight in alot of countries with no major motorsporting background using national pride and support as a platform to promote it. |

What a pity!
I actually don't understand his move. If it was a dream, than why should he resign? Personally, I think that this move is similar to Alex Shnaider's one. They are not so passionate about the sport. A1GP just lost it's arab roots and I'm guessing that Team Lebanon will leave too. Last edited by DucatiThrust; 29 Sep 2006 at 19:49. |

Er... I'm guessing that it's because he's a member of a Royal family that lost its' King a while back. As in the guy has to take over running his country and would no longer have time to run a racing series! You guys need to keep up with political events |

He is only a cousin of the ruler or something, he doesn't exactly have to run his country.
Anyway his background is investment finance, so I guess it isn't that surprising. |

To be honest, I don't think he was the one providing the financial backing. From everything I've heard, he was just a (very good) figurehead.
So the same people will be paying the bills as paid them in the past. But they do need to get their act together. The Verstappen affair revealed that not everything in that area is as under control as it should be. Last edited by strider; 14 Oct 2006 at 14:20. |

London-based investors are supporting the series financially at the moment before a planned floatation sometime next year.
