This from the Autosport Site:
______________________________ EX-F1 marketing man takes helm of British Touring Car Championship Motorsport marketing specialist Richard West has been appointed as the new manager of the British Touring Car Championship. West works for Octagon Marketing - a sister company of Brands Hatch Leisure, whose chief executive Rob Bain is the lynchpin of the series' new promoters BMP. West is well-known in motorsport marketing, having worked for Formula 1 teams such as McLaren, Arrows and also Williams at the time when it landed its big-money deal with Rothmans. _______________________________ Autosport also reports that West has worked on the European Formula 2 seater F1 programme (the car that Mansell's supposed to be trying to squash his fat arse into) and that West is keen to have Mansell involved in the BTCC on the promotional side of things. |

West is supposed to be a good man at publicity & promotion. Seems a good idea to get household names involved. Mansell would be a draw to the BTCC. This might get more people through the gates for 'lesser' formulas.

The only way to generate interest if Mansell - or any famous driver - is involved is if he's racing. Having that guy sitting behind a microphone, sending all the press to sleep is not going to do much for the BTCC's popularity...
It's really exciting. I'm such an interesting person. I am... - Mansell |
