NEW ZIP / Renault scholarship !!

Found this ( soon to be published ) Press release !

ZIP Formula & JENSEN Motorsport
JOIN FORCES !

Officially announced today JENSEN Motorsport UK Formula Renault team and Zip formula are to join forces and produce a new scholarship to offer potential future stars a start on the motorsport ladder at an unbelievable cost. The ZIP JENSEN Scholarship is the idea of Team JENSEN owner Jensen Lunn and ZIP Boss Martin Hines.

In an official statement today Jensen said “ This Scholarship offers fantastic opportunities for talented drivers to get their motorsport careers underway, for too long now the road to success has been too expensive for many talented potential future stars, we all know the UK is the place to make a name for yourself, that’s why so many foreign drivers come here, but it also means that costs have escalated, this scholarship will offer a fantastic opportunity to run over 2 years for less money than one competitive season in Formula Ford ! .”

The scholarship branded ZIP JENSEN SCHOLARSHIP will be a 2 year plan, the first year will see the drivers in the scholarship branded zip cars, this offers a fantastic and well proven step on the ladder, it gives drivers the opportunity to race on the major UK circuits and learn the ropes with the zip team. Jensen adds, “the ZIP team do a fantastic job, they really get behind the drivers and teach them the skills they will need more and more as their career unfolds, during their year with zip they will be competing in the full championship in equal machinery”.
Martin Hines of ZIP has always had an eye for talent and has been involved in motorsport for many years, with involvement of drivers such as Gary Paffett, Mike Spencer and his son Luke Hines currently competing in TOCA Touring cars Martin’s knowledge of the industry will be a great help and on hand advice for the scholarship drivers.

In year two of the scholarship the drivers then move into the ZIP JENSEN branded JENSEN Motorsport cars in the UK TOCA Formula Renault championship, ZIP Boss Martin Hines says “ The step from our ZIP cars into Jensen’s Formula Renault cars is easy, from my experience the drivers who have already done this say it is easy to get to grips with the Tatuus chassis of Renault after a season in ZIP.” Martin continues “ With drivers like Mike Spencer, Neil Doran and Jamie Morrow from zip formula having time in Formula Renault cars the feed back has been good, they all say how easy the transition is and how certain characteristics of the chassis are the same, unlike Formula Ford where many drivers find the step very difficult indeed”.
The ZIP JENSEN cars will be run and prepared by JENSEN Motorsport, team boss Jensen adds “This is a big project for us, we are already well underway with the re-shaping of the team, we have secured outside funding which is allowing us to heavily invest in the team, This will see new equipment, new engineers and potentially more cars, the engineers we have targeted for this programme all currently work in the British F3 championship and are proven”.

The scholarship will be advertised in October and promises to generate huge interest. The ZIP JENSEN scholarship will run over 2 years with the first year in ZIP and the second with JENSEN motorsport in the UK Formula Renault championship, the cost will be less than one season in a competitive seat in Formula ford !.

Hmmmm. What is Mr M Hines doing this for? Wouldn't any established, reasonably successful FR teams do it?

Hello Motorsports fans I think it is time I said hello
I think we all agree that moving up to a higher formula is hard and sometimes no matter how hard you work things just will not go for you or your team.
I also think that we can all agree that money is hard to come by and most drivers find it difficult to come up with the amount of money which can be spent in Formula Renault to pay for the most expensive teams in the paddock(unless you have the support of a F1 Team or very rich family).....so today in motorsport there are too many good young drivers who will never get a chance to race in this type of formula and progress to ???? we know not where so with this in mind the deal between Jensen Motorsport & ZIP must be seen as a good deal for the sport.
Jensen Motorsport has had a very difficult year with many of the same problems that young drivers face ,so there is no doubt that with the hard work and determination of Jensen and his team that next year will be a big step forward on the grid and a path leading to even more success in the future.....
GOOD LUCK JEN GO FOR IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does this mean that you might start running the tean as a full time proffessional out-fit or are you still planning to have preparation done by part timers after hours?

Hi Mak, good to speak with you again, yes of course a project of this type requires 100% application, I have assembled a good crew to undertake this scholarship which will keep them all very busy, as always you can only work / perform within your budget, with this scholarship and the outside funding I have recieved this will be great for my team and any drivers involved in the scholarship.

I dont understand does a driver get a year in Renault for free after paying for the Zip drive or is it like a normal scholarship thing where you test hundreds of people all paying a couple of hundred and you then give away a drive??

You can do FFord for not that much more than Zip anyway. It's the motorhomes and 45 foot trucks that cost the cash...

If a season of Zip followed by a season of Renault is less than a season with us in Ford next year. I think I can fill your team for you.

I can only think of 3 teams in Fford that have a 45-foot artics, and nobody who has a motorhome. This year in Fford driving for a top team is no guarantee of success.

if we do BMW or Renault or Ford is not the point. I just wanted to know how much you thought a season in Ford is and how much cheaper than that your two year deal will be.

Both seats in what? We have a lot of enquiries from drivers who may not be ready for Ford and zip may be a better option, just think if it is that inexpensive I could be interested in getting involved. We know who we want for which Formula but are a bit busy this week trying to win the Formula Ford Championship and then the festival. 2004 will hopefully fall into place soon though.
