[V8DVS09R07] Fujitsu Series @ Homebush
A title to be decided, with Mr Webb in the box seat... One would think it's his to lose.
A bunch of rookies at a totally new circuit should be interesting... |

Moffat will win the series next year. I think Webb would be better off just scooting away from the field again (such as Bathurst), rather than playing it in conservative mode.

A mate of mine will be having his first run in the Fujitsu Series, Hayden Pullen. He will be driving a BA with sponsorship from the City of Wagga Wagga.
Hayden is very competitive, he has driven my race car a number of times with great success. It will be interesting to see how he goes in the Fujitsu series. He also has an AU Supercar, which was the one that got destroyed at Wakefield Park driven by Colin Sieders, in that massive accident at turn one. It has been totally rebuilt and has one all its starts since running in the Super TT races at Winton. |

I went to the open day for the new Wagga car. Didnt have much time to hang around but the day seemed to go well.
Pic of the car Other shots from the day here Last time I saw Hayden racing he was in a truck, so at least the ford will be light and nimble Hell of a place to make your debut, best of luck to him though and ill be cheering him on. |

Great sponsors from the Wagga area too.
Apart from the City of Wagga, there's Toll Logistics, Truck Art, Ron Crouch Transport, Denco Diesel, Hillis Ford, Mr Bullbar and Khan Signs. A credit to Hayden and his team that they've been able to pull this together in a country town..... |

Good luck to Hayden. Hopefully a good, trouble-free showing could open up a door for a full-time drive in the Fujitsu Series next year?

Since I pay rates on both my house and my business, and the City of Wagga is tipping in the dosh, I reckon I'm already sponsoring it anyway......

I believe that Garth Walden has done a deal to race Jay Verdnik's Commodore at Homebush. Don't know about sponsors etc yet. The car did alright at the Mountain with Jay behind the wheel, and Waldo's been keeping his skills sharp racing the Radicals and Evos around the place.

Hey, not sure if this thought was already raised, but why didn't Marcos Ambrose consider driving in the Fujitsu series at this event if they couldn't organise a licence? It wouldn't necessarily be a forgone conclusion, would it? I guess he would be "above" the development series.

Thought the defending champ wasn't allowed to compete in the next season? Or is that only full-time?

I thought the same, but interestingly the rules dont actually say that? I wonder if its some gentlemanly rule?
A 5.8 DVS Eligibility 5.8.1 The DVS is open to all Drivers except those who finished 15th or better in the preceding year’s VCS. 5.8.2 Teams owned or grouped with Level 1 or Level 2 Teams will only be permitted to Compete in the DVS, with special permission from the V8 Supercar Board and then only if they are intending to uphold the objectives of the DVS. 5.8.3 Any Driver who is Competing in the DVS will be permitted to Compete in a maximum of three (3) VCS Sprint rounds during the same season and still be eligible to Compete in the DVS. 5.8.4 Any Driver who is Competing in a VCS Endurance round will not be eligible to Compete at the same meeting in the DVS unless that Driver has Competed in a minimum of 60% of the previo |

I think it just always been the case that the series winner has either moved to the main game or not been able to put a deal together for the following year. And previous winners certainly aren't banned for life, inaugural series winner Dean Canto returning to win again in 2005.

The rules were re-written (end of '07 IIRC).
It 'used to' be that if a driver won the 'development' series (Y1) he wasn't allowed to compete in that series in the following year (Y2). There was nothing to stop him running again (in Y3). |
