TEAM STRATEGY AT McLAREN ???
the new points systems is favourable to Kimi if he keeps consistent, making harder to MS to catch up.
Now a potential problem rises: if Dc is ahead of Kimi, what should he do? Is it possible/likely/good that at Mclaren they choose to implement a team strategy,in order to favourish Kimi? At Ferrari they surely will (despite new rules)... What do you think will/should happen? Last edited by climb; 30 Apr 2003 at 09:45. |

They won't.
And DC has just as good a chance as Schumi of closing the gap. |

I don't get this, it's against the rules anyway, and history has shown us that McLaren will always let their drivers race when both still have a chance. Kimi is only 2 retirements away from losing the championship lead.
So no vote, silly question. |

McLaren still runs things the traditional way. At this point, no team orders.
If we get to the end of the year and Kimi's the only one with a shot at beating Schumacher, then yes, I think team orders will be implemented. |

Instead of team strategy, it's reall team ORDERS.
Which is "illegal". <sigh> |

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed. |

I'd take issue with that mr v. Kimi has only outqualified DC once in the last six races - and that was because DC made a mistake (before, he was up on Kimi's time) at Imola. He's also a pretty canny and consistant driver, as Brazil showed. I think Kimi will be quicker in the end, but they're pretty even at the moment.
As for team orders, only if it seems necessary at the last few races. I must admit to preferring this strategy to Ferraris. |

I think they'd let Coulthard race Raikkonen because if he wins enough races he'll be WDC & if both McLaren's were to beat Schumacher that's less points he gets.

Practically they decided who would be the top driver for the rest of the season: Mika Hakkinen, and this was determined on the basis of which of the two would lead at the first corner (remember?) of the first GP: not bad for a team who "always let their drivers race", isn't that?

I thought that was an agreement between the drivers and DC's decision (not the teams) to right a wrong.

And climb, of course I remember, I was there. So Melbourne can be used as an example. |
