Biggest gap between teamates
This race clinched what I had already suspected:
The biggest gap between drivers on the same team is Renault. I heard echo's of the famous radio transmission as I watched this race: "Giancarlo, you're on the same fuel as Fernando, you can't be 2 seconds a lap slower!" Oh yes he can... Its becoming downright embarrassing. Especially with all the excuses and complaints in recent races. Even if some of them were legit, it all just looks like sour grapes now. What do others think? Is there another team with a bigger gap between the no. 1 and 2 drivers? |

There are already two other threads on Fisichella's performance. We need a third?
If you want to discuss relative teammate performance, you might be interested in this thread Last edited by Inigo Montoya; 14 May 2006 at 22:29. |

This thread would have been easy to answer if Ide and Yoong were still on the grid.
Fisichella isn't totally outclassed against Alonso, but this thread has me wonder what the most embarrassing driver pairing ever is. |

I think Ralf is light years ahead of Trulli at the moment...

This time last year, Trulli was miles ahead of Ralf.
On an all-time level, Johnny Dumfries versus Senna in the 1986 Lotus comes to mind - Ayrton took pole after pole, Johnny never qualified higher than 8th and even failed to qualify once. Michael Andretti was a long way behind Ayrton at McLaren as well. Was it Ricardo Zunino who was Piquet's team-mate for a bit at Brabham and was at the opposite end of the grid to him? |

Don't know the answer (to the original question) but IT IS NOT MASSA V SCHUMACHER as widely predicted pre season!
I like Felipe. |

I would suggest that humiliating situations like Senna X Dumfries or Andretti was left out of the case being studied...

Emerson Fittipaldi was the 1972 World Drivers' Champion.
Team-mate Dave Walker did not score a single point. |

But there have been occassions where a teammate has clawed back a huge 'gap' in pace over a season.
1/ Herbert v Alesi Sauber '97. Impey totally slaughtered Jean for the first few races in '97 before Jean got to grips with his equipment and arguably got the nod by the end of season. 2/ Massa v Fizzi 2004. Again Massa really put Fizzi in the shade at the start of the season before getting back on terms and finishing better (if not necessarily always qualifying better) than Felipe by end of that year. 3/ Schumacher v Brundle 1992. Still arguably the driver who's been closest to Schuey in outright pace (until this year i'd venture??!!) as a teammate in his career. Martin made a few crass errors early in the year as he struggled to come to terms with his speed. MS usually qualified the better but Brundle was significantly the faster at some races and was unlucky to be dropped. 4/ Gilles Villeneuve wupped Didier Pironi in their first season together at Ferrari, yet arguably Pironi looked much more the part in '82 and GV may have been up against it if they had seen the year out. There's probably a few more examples of a driver's ability and resilience showing through in the end to 'comeback' at a more fancied teammate so to speak. However, I don't see Fizzi managing that with Alonso on a consistent basis. I can see though Massa continuing to 'improve' at Ferrari and the JV versus Nick H battle carrying on all year! |

Michael and Jos in 1994...?...
This year...hrrrm...could be tempting to argue for JB-RB, although Rubens has helped his cause a small amount in the last 2 qualifying sessions. |
