Not only was Kenny killed in the same corner at the same track (New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon) as Adam Petty but here are a few more.
Kenny was a former driver of the #28 car that the late Davey Allison drove. Ernie Irvan had a wreck in the #28 car at Michigan and was given a 10% chance of surviving the accident which he did. He received another severe concusion in another wreck in the #36 car last year at Michigan and subsequently retired. Lets hope that the apparent black cloud that many have said hangs over the #28 car does not continue. Dale Jarrett, Kenny Wallce are former drivers of the #28 car and Ricky Rudd is the current driver. Kenny Irwin was killed in the same exact #42 car that Joe Nemechek won with in the fall race at Loudon last season. Joe's brother John Nemechek was killed in 1997 in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck series race. I wonder what is going through Joe and Mama Nemechek's mind right now. |

Another very sad bit of irony was that over the summer (or winter in the nothern part of the world) people on these forums were going on about how safe Nascar was compared to other forms of the sport...
Another thing which is sort of ironic is that Loudon isn't exactly an old track, it is hard to imagine that it would turn out to be so dangerous... |

You're quite right, a lot of times yo'd see NASCAR footage of the horrendous accidents and the driver would just walk away. And it lulls you into this false sense of security, into thinking that the technology and design are at a level where almost any crash is survivable. But racing is one sport where death lurks around every corner and you take your chances with that when you go out there. Laudon is a new track, but its not the track, it seems to be the throttle design that fails under the G-load of that corner. I don't know, I'm not an engineer. But it's sad and any time a driver is killed its always one too many.

You know what made really made me stop and think during my stay at nhis(fri and sat). All 3 support races were won by rookies. Busch appears to be heading down the same path as Irwin: 1 uyr in trucks, then to WC (#97 ride).
